I've heard "rob casinos" used successfully, but I don't know if I'd recommend that one in particular. For this question, if you're not going to try to sell it as believable, then go for obviously sarcastic. What you don't want to do is joke about something that is both illegal and somewhat believable. You don't want to inadvertently draw attention for possible money laundering, etc. Personally, I just give vague descriptions of actual jobs. For example, who really knows what consultants do? If you work for a consulting company, that tells them nothing. All follow up questions can then be answered with vague, boring, safe answers. The same can be said for working for the government. If they ask what type of job, it's just a boring desk job, but hey, it pays good, so what are you gonna do? If they keep digging, throw out some BS about supply chain logistics or whatever. Nobody wants to hear about that kind of stuff lol

I tell them I'm retarded, which is my wife's code word for retired. No offense meant to those who are mentally challenged through no fault of their own; willfully retarded is a different ball of wax.
 
I admit I pulled the gay card just last week while having dinner with my uncle in NYC.

We were sitting at the bar and two pretty hot, younger chicks sat next to us and we began chatting. After some time - btw, we were not trying to pick them up - the one mentions something to the effect of the other girl being her "girlfriend", to which I replied, "what a coincidence, we are partners", pointing to my (startled) uncle. Then I said, "care to swap?"
 
ah good suggestions. i can see govt desk job or ups working well. dunno about retired/unemployed. that would be a bit surprising since i am young and betting decent amounts
