Quick question on zen count

12 vs. 4 is a borderline Hit/Stand play.

The fewer the decks the closer the call is.

So … +1 works quite well.

Take a good long look at 12 vs. 5 and 6.

That will be either −1 or −2.

These three decisions are among the most valuable indexed plays.
 
The correct Basic Strategy for 12 vs. 4 (Ten or Face+4) is different

for 6 deck and 8 deck shoes. That is how close it is.

The closest plays in BJ are A2 vs. 5 and A4 vs. 4

Honestly 12v4 is suchhhh a close call. It's a very borderline decision that it won't change much if you use 0 or 1. But yes, as it stands, that is against basic strategy. Also remember, though, that those are generalized index numbers and not for any specific ruleset (except S17/H17) so you're better off generating your own for whatever game you most frequently play.

What do you use to generate your own indicies ? CV data ?

thanks for the replies. would there be any significant advantage gained by sim'ing indices vs general ones? im not actually even 21 yet and i dont really know what games ill be playing.

ive just been learning to count for the past 6 months or so after i was at the casino with my dad one night and won $1000 flatbetting $25 on a $200 buyin (playing pretty close to basic strategy) while he lost over $6000 doubling 12s v 10s and putting $200 a hand on the match the dealer sidebet...so i decided if i was gonna play the game i might as well learn to play it right

Nope, not a significant advantage. Only a slight advantage, which you probably won't notice over all the variance in your results!

Perhaps once you get better you can teach your dad, too! No reason to throw away money like that.
