I place a chip on top of my bet, that way if I win,dealer will only get the one chip I won > If i'm playing a green chip & think its time to tip i will place a $30 bet ,throw dealer the $5 I won & take my bet back down to $25 keeping the $5. I have had dealers ask if that is their bet ,would I place it out side of the box. NO,NO. Soon they will catch on.

Of course you hear it all the time, "I've got x amount to donate to the casino" but that doesnt mean they wanna lose. The ol lady that takes so much to the slots wants to hit that jackpot baby!! They fully expect to lose because they know they have the worst of it but they still wanna be the lucky one, the WINNER. People take their last chip and bet it in the hopes that it will be the start of the monster run. I guess there are those that literally WANT to lose. They gotta be few and far between though.
There's plenty of people who go to the casino to have a good time and fully expect to lose. Hence why i said "have a good time blowing their money"
And they are getting something in return for their money, some measly comps.

Generally I agree with what AM posted earlier. I have never seen a real benefit in tipping at a casino and often have found the reverse to be true. Dealers I have stiffed after a big win no longer want to talk to me or discuss my strange strategy plays. They dislike me and in return put their heads down and deal quickly without a word. Which of course is EXACTLY what I want. It is too bad many of them are poorly paid and I think they should be organized to help that situation but in reality I don't think dealing cards should be a career choice for anyone. I give a portion of my winnings to causes that I believe are more worthy then topping up the wage of underpaid workers who could probably be doing something better. Another thing I've noticed is that many dealers are regular gamblers/addicts themselves. People earning near minimum wage should not be "entertaining" themselves in casinos by signing their paychecks over to the cage at the store next door.

Personally, I have become more averse to tipping as my AP time has increased. What I tip after a nice win is often times seen as "cheap" by many dealers, so why bother. A nickel here, a dime there, it adds up. Play 200 times a years, win 60%, tip a nickel each time is $600, tip a little more and that's 1k man. For what????
I track the tips I give in my spreadsheat and I REALLY hate putting them in there. I tried to stop recording them so I didn't feel as bad about giving away part of my ev but decided I needed to know what I was truly throwing away.
This is a tough gig. Have a few nice wins and tip away only to get pounded for months and then you wish you had the money back. I'll still tip a little if the time's right, etc., but not for "just dealing the cards".

Also, tipping DOES affect backoff decisions, according to Cellini and other reputable sources. So maybe a white chip every twenty minutes could save your game earning $50 an hour.

It's interesting to think that we make more per hour than the dealers. But we should not tip away our expected value.
Earning more then a casino dealer is nothing to be proud of.

I am incline to agree more with Monkey's thinking on this one. I don't feel responsible to help pay someone's salary because they are poorly paid. I am patronizing the casino and the casino is responsible for paying their employees. If I choose to eat at a McDonalds, am I supposed to tip the poorly paid workers there also? What about the usher at the movie theater, the cashier at the gas station, the bank teller, the cashier at the drug store? All low paying jobs. Do I need to subsidize them as well? And if I am going to subsidize all these low paid workers, I surely need to give some money to each and every homeless person holding a sign asking for beer money and in Vegas that's hundreds of people a day that I see.
I know some players tip in an attempt to 'buy' better penetration. With very short sessions style that I play, that wouldn't benefit me. On the rare occasions that I tip, it is because the dealer was extraordinarily pleasant. I am not going to tip some glummy gus (and most of them are) for simply doing their job.
Anyone making EV of $50/hour is most likely spreading green to black and if you are spreading green to black, and tip the dealer 1 or 2 bucks an hour, they usually react worse than if you had not tipped at all, as they think they are entitled to more than that. If you are betting green/black, they dealers expect a couple red tip per hour.

Whew! That is pretty neg. EV there. The upside is that if they just keep taking only half your stuff, they will never get it all! Or wait, does that infinity stuff work in the real world??
I was only saying if I place A $5 bet outside of the box ,dealer would get $10 instead of $5 . I would Keep the $5 bet in the box ,giving dealer the $5 won until I lose the bet. Sometimes it works out better for the dealer if I win 3 hands in a roll > but you can take your smart come back & stick it.

I agree with this, and kind of want to bring this back full circle to my original post. Dealers balk at a reasonable tip like moo suggests (couple whites per hour.) I want to tip something that I consider reasonable. By coloring up in a way that you only have $5 in change after a 2-3 hour session a $5 tip looks reasonable to the dealer, even on a big win. Most don't expect you to break down a black for them. All are happy.
