Pit boss compliment my counting skill, what should I do?

Maybe he was pulling your chain:whip: Seriously though if he felt you were a threat he wouldn't allow you to play.

I've been called out for counting before by the floor, and continue to play rated with no issues. Maybe you're playing at a level that's below their radar, some places tolerate red chip counters. Maybe they're bluffing. Or again, maybe at that store counter catching isn't the floor's duty, and he simply enjoys watching a skilled player in action.

Just think of yourself as prey and the casino as the hunter. If they really want to kill you, you won't see them until it is too late...

The floor jokes about that kind of thing all the time

And no store really "tolerates" red chip players, it's more like they don't care enough to evaluate red chip players. If they know for a fact you have an edge they don't want you there.

You need to determine if the comment was:
A) A warning
B) A joke
C) Fishing

What was he doing immediately before making the comment? Did he just get off the phone or finish whispering comments with other suits, or has he been chatty at your table trying to make everyone feel comfortable? Did he make the comment in a joking or serious manner?

If he's being serious, it's time to leave. If it was supposed to be a joke, or if he's just trying to see how you'll react to the comment, getting up and leaving right is probably one of the worst things you can do.

Yeah, why leave? That would appear to be an admission of guilt. If they're on to him they'll probably just get him the next time if he leaves now. Might as well take them for everthing you can get out of them before being run out the door.
 

In my experience, that is a "veiled threat", with the implied message ...
Your counting is obvious, (at least to me), but I am tolerating you, because
your betting level and bet spread are not too threatening.

I was stuck at the table with two friends of the pit boss in a busy day. The pit boss came to my table a lot to chat and joke with his friends who also asked a lot about what to do with their hands. Pit boss answered them according to basic strategy. I hate it because I was forced to reduce my spread every time he was near. Even so, in his last visit, the pit boss told them it is the end of his shift. If they have more questions how to play with their hands, ask this young man. He is a great counter. He pointed to me. I have never been singled out before because I am always extremely careful with good act.

I love this casino because it is new and many pit bosses have absolutely no clue but not this one.

Ever hear of water cooler gossip?? All it takes is one sharp PC and the word will get around. If he's on to you then they will all know what's going on eventually. Just hope that your play is within their tolerance.

We all have to learn somewhere and usually grind it out at one store more frequently than others. I hope you've found a store that won't sweat your action. I certainly have appreciated the main one that's allowed me to get a lot of hours under my belt.

-winces- That sounds like a physically painful situation. But, it seems like the best thing to do is play it off as a joke. If they plan on doing something about you then likely you cannot stop them so might as well play the humor card.

I have gotten some similar comments (thankfully from dealers and not pit) and more often than not it felt more like they were being playful. But of course it could just as easily be a warning.
