Agreed. If $500 is your target, you have a chance of hitting that target of 42%. That is a much better chance than flat-betting thousands of $1 hands on a negative EV game (like blackjack or any other game).

The only consequence of that is: Stop playing the game the way you are playing, right now. $500 is lost - it is not going to come back. Stop chasing your losses, it will only make matters worse.

If you want to learn how to beat this game, you already found the right place to learn. But then you have to listen carefully, ask the right questions, and most importantly do your homework. First lesson is gameplay, second lesson is basic strategy. Next lessons are counting systems - first in theory, then in practise. Then still in practise, and only then in casino.

That's what it takes, along with an open mind, and much more discipline than you showed until now. You might get your $500 back, but you have to work for it.

Maybe he would win since he said he only knows half of the correct Basic Strategy. He might get lucky.
 
The best way to win $500 is to place it all on the dont pass bar in craps. It'll have a 49% chance of winning. If you place the $500 on one blackjack bet, the chance of winning isn't 43%, it's less. What if you need to double or split?

Although I know it would never happen here, it would be desirable for the rest of us if registering to the site required an essay submission (as did a forum unrelated to advantage play that I used to frequent), as to weed out trash like this.

Wouldnt he have a better chance if he placed $250 bet instead of the full $500? In case he got a pair of aces or something.Just curious, not that it matters much.

I think your definition of ploppies is somewhat broad. I have known non-counters who know perfect basic strategy, use hand interaction, board composition strategies, and other "advanced" plays to refine their game. I don't lump these together with the general ploppie population which is famous for: 1) always taking even money
2) never hitting A7 (since 18 is a good hand)
3) thinking someone HAS to hit or the dealer won't bust
4) believing in the sacred flow of the cards
5) other common well known ploppie behavior

I remember a hilarious experience one time. Dealer showed a 5 and everyone had a hard hand above 11. This ploppy at third base said that someone at a full table must hit, and he had a twenty, so he split his tens. He got 2 stiffs after splitting tens, and the dealer busted. If he didn't split tens, the dealer would have gotten a 21, so this situation justified his quirky notion that someone at a full table must hit.

More likely the split was justified by the count, and talking voodoo is a cheap camo.
