Holecarding

This is mainly in reference to 3CP but it can be related to any game that could be HC'd.

If you are playing against a dealer who continuously flashes her Hole Cards and you're betting with your advantage, will it be a flag to the Casino when the dealer goes on break and you start betting much less until she returns?

Or to the extreme where you ONLY play with that dealer?

Okay well I'm not talking about betting $500 a hand and when the dealer leaves betting $10 until she comes back.

I am talking more along the lines of betting $25/hand and then $5 until she comes back or something more like that. How long can you get away with it?

Some civilians like certain dealers.
Some civilians drop bets for new dealers.
Leaving when the dealer leaves probably better then drastically dropping bets.
Leaving just before said dealer leaves also an option.
One can also play through a few hands with new dealer and leave when a civilian would.

A big consideration, what type of longevity at the game are you looking for? Size of bets, winning and time played are the big 3.

Take a long break, play fewer hands, but leave your bet the same.
At least for BJ. 3CP is a much smaller HC edge. zg

$25 to $5 is probably benign. But in general you shouldn't change your bet drastically. Your edge is high enough already to tolerate a little bit of -EV.

Just take a break (not immediately), slow down the game, take a call, order a drink, etc. etc.

my policy

Dealer change:
1st hand: bet same or sometime i'lll increase by 25%..
till i lose, drop to half..
One more hand, further drop to half..
Start raising before dealer have started coming. So, on dealer change my bet mostly remains the same..

Max spread= 1-4(depends on the game), 1-2(in some games)..

Spread with dealer is a big giveaway and can raise an eyebrow for collusion

Dropping down to the table minimum during a new dealer is pretty obvious. You'll probably get away with it for some time, but there are easier and better ways to minimize -EV relief shifts. Be creative.

For the game you mentioned, I'd slowly drop my bet, and possibly take a break every 40 minutes or hour. If it's a relief, well, you gotta suck it up and bet a lot less for the main. Although it's almost not worth playing a relief in that game with that table max...

For other games, you have room to lay down more cover.

Normal casino patrons have superstitions about dealer. I think it is acceptable to play certain dealers hard, and certain dealers lightly or not at all.

I generally don't play relief dealers at all. When they go on break, I tell them I also need a little break.

I've seen a place where people had to show what cards they folded at showdown. It would look suspicious to fold a pair of aces when the dealer had a straight.

Any player playing a game where they know the dealer "has a straight" should probably not be folding Aces if mucked hands are revealed.

Normal casino patrons do a lot of crazy things that work when they have zero correlation to all of the other things that make a player suspicious—namely, betting big, making strange plays, playing unrated, and so on. Any of these things alone won't necessarily confirm suspicions, but all of them combined plus blatantly avoiding relief dealers is probably not the key to longevity. I'm not saying that you must play exactly the same during relief and shift dealers, but there's a middle ground.

Was she making a fan on a hot night. On 3 card poker They bring each set of 3 cards out of shuffler so low & fast . Oh hell forget it . I have had that happen in BJ & knew he had 20 while I was setting on 19. What do you do in that case? The only other time was in AC , dealer turned his hole card over ,must have thought he had BJ. Good night Pogo

another question

Hat or no hat? Does anyone wear sunglasses? I really love my hats now, my eyes can do whatever they want under the brim. I do feel like some dealers are slighly tighter around hat covered apex, versus when I played them before I wore hats. Have never worn sunglasses, seems suspicious and unnecessary to me.
