ive been flipping through a deck of cards for on average an hour a night... i got my time down to 30 seconds for one deck counting high low... was wondering how proficient you guys are... and the time i should be striving for... thanks in advance
 
30 seconds is just fine. I like to be as close to 20 as possible but really that's just overkill. 30 gets the job done just as well as 20. If you are wonging then maybe you want to be as fast as possible.
 
Im wonging exclusively... at least the next time i go down over the weekend... in ac i dont know why anyone would play shuffle to shuffle.... wait for the positive 2 true count and drop the black chips down

Where are you wonging in AC on weekends?Especially this weekend,with the three day holiday. If you can find games with any empty seats,its most likely a carnival game.
 
I haven't counted through a deck in a while, but I'm actually pretty damn slow. I'm pretty lazy. However, it doesn't really hamper my style in actual play, except if I have a circustance where I need to count down and entire table in a flash before the dealer takes the cards away... that's a coin flip.

30 is borderline. Some dealers will be faster than that. Try to get down to 20 and you'll be just fine for any dealer.

You can use cancelation to just count the sum of each hand instead of counting down a deck of cards...its more realstic in my OPINION.

I know that you said you are going this weekend, so this may apply more before your next session...try dealing out a game and counting through that. Take your dining room table, deal out 6 or 7 hands and the dealer's, just like in the casino. Find your way of doing it at home and see if it flies at the casino after some good reps.

It makes it a lot easier, because the speed at which the dealer deals changes. When the initial cards are dealt out, it can be quick. When the players are hitting, splitting, and standing, it's a different pace.

Some people count them as they come out, some do it after each player gets their two, some do it at the conclusion of each player's hand. Find your way.

Practice.....

Sometimes I will layout on a table in front of me at least two cards at a time to five different spots about 7 inches from each other and do not look at the cards.

Then I look down at the cards right to left and keep the running total.

I shove the cards off to the left into a pile and deal again, not worrying about hitting/standing/splitting, etc.

All I am doing is practicing keeping a running total.

The format I am using much closer to the actual routine than just flipping through cards in your hand. I think it is a better exercise than the flipping through one deck. But there is not a benchmark where you can say "alright I am this fast so I can do it at a casino".

People at work during the lunch half-hour look at me funny and wonder what the heck I am doing!!!
 
Stop flipping, burn a card then flip the deck over so you can see the cards.. Use meaningful pairs to cancel or to add or subtract. This method is much less time consuming. You should be able to say.. The burn card is 2-6 7-9 or 10-Ace.. If your using HI-LO..
