Ben Mezrich has stated on his website that the Kevin Spacey movie "21" is almost finished filming. No word as to when the movie will be shown.
 
I saw some of the footage this week. It looks good, but the dialogue is typical Hollywood writing. It’s hard to take it seriously when the phrase “Winner, winner, chicken diner” comes up. Laurence Fishburne looks pretty strong in his part though.

Do you think this movie is going to hurt playing conditions across the country as more people inevitably are going to learn about card counting?

Do you know how many times I have heard a ploppy or dealer use that phrase?

for the general public, it would probably be appropriate.

In fact after the movie comes out I am going to start using the line.

Did Breaking Vegas, or Bringing Down the House, hurt the playing conditions as in more counters etc?

I think the answer is no, what you'll see is more people TRYING to count and not putting the time and effort required to do it and end up losing more money at the tables because they saw some movie and think they can do it after practicing for a weekend.
 
The movie is coming out on March 21st, 2008. It's going to probably be stupid if they're casting actors who are more than double the age of the MIT students when they made millions.

That's not the Kevin Spacey movie. I think it's just an independent movie based on the book (there are probably several out there). According to the director:

"We Knew that Kevin Spacey's Production company was going to do the film version on the book, this was an audition for the actor in the trailer to be considered for the BRINGING DOWN THE HOUSE Film"

It's just the nature of the business. :( It can easily take 6 months to finish editing all of the elements. If they’ve set the street date at 3/08 then they are probably trying to get most of the other post-production work done ahead of time as well. Things like domestic and foreign distribution, various reformats (home video, airline, PSP, blu ray, etc.), DVD extras and authoring, subtitling and closed captioning, and promotional campaigns all have to be done still. Making a Hollywood movie is a very time consuming process.

This movie would probably get eaten alive if released in the summer. Same for the holiday season, it would not do good if released at christmas.

This release date probably has just as much to with there not being alot of blockbuster-type movies being released at the time it is as there is in production delays.

I hope that this movie is full of misinformation, ala rainman, so that there is a big rush on the blackjack tables. I hope people get the idea that cardcounting is easy and that the player always wins. People would be hitting the casino with deep pockets and no knowledge of real card-counting.

The worst thing this movie could do is give an accurate depiction of true card-counting. That would turn off alot of people from blackjack and cause casino's to be more wary of counters.

I'd challange you to name me more than five hollywood movies that had ANY teenage characters portrayed by teenage actors.

For the bonus round, I'd even let you use prime time television shows.

Rachel Bilson: 23
Mischa Barton: 18-- but still, playing a 10th grader...)

(And let's not even get started on 90210, where the average age of the cast, playing high-school characters, was 23)

Peter Parker and Mary-Jane Watson, two high-school friends-- 27(!) and 20)
 
Be nice if there's a PSA about the perils of 6:5 and force the casinos to kill them due to lack of action.

Let's pray for the opposite. Hopefully, the casinos will get paranoid about people watching the movie and becoming inspired to be card counters. Their paranoia could easily be put on hold if they switched all the games to 6:5. It would be great.

He likes the 6:5 games because he is a hole carder. He is hoping that 6:5 catches on so that there will be more pitch games available. The problem is that the 6:5 menace has already spread to DD and shoe games, so the casinos are not likely to bring back the pitch games. They are more likely to just replace the signs on all of their shoe games.

The problem with Negrocan's plan is that it is based on intelligent, rational thought. Casinos don't think that way. :p
