WV voters split on table games.

This past week,a motion to allow table games at existing racinos was put to a public vote in two West Virginia counties.In a split decision,voters in Ohio County approved and those in Jefferson County voted it down.Two other counties had the election postponed due to some legal questions.
Table games should be up and running by October 1st in Ohio County.:)

Well, maybe. Depends on the game conditions. But I might be a hero and go out there when it opens and give a report.
 
I pass through there almost monthly during my 15 miles through WV to Ohio...I may have to stop in too if it is worth while.
 
I'm a shareholder in Mountaineer Racing. The election in that county was postponed because it might have failed to meet some arcane election law. The referendum will give permission for both real table games and mechanical. Management of Mountaineer says they will install only live games for the start,and has no plans for machine games.They are bringing in the machine games to their slot parlor in Pa,but that is their only option.
Keep in mind,though,these are the same jokers that run Binions so I wouldn't expect any great games.

Do you realize how ass-backwards Ohio is when it comes to gambling? First and foremost.. think of the Pete Rose story. but that's a whole different issue.. I guess

I've been an Ohio resident my entire life.. .growing up in Cleveland and living most of my life there until just recently moving. Despite Cleveland being one of the poorest cities in America... with one of the worst job markets they still won't legalize gambling.

They still sell lottery tickets and they still have racetracks... hmm...

Every time it's come on the ballot I hear the same anti-gambling talking points. Usually geared toward "casinos bring up crime."

Bullshit. Poverty brings up crime. Desperation brings up crime. Seeing how poor Cleveland is the crime rate will go up regardless.

Now install a casino and people can get jobs..and better paying ones than working at the local BP station.

Just ask the residents of Lawrenceburg, IN how their city has changed since Argosy opened. I rest my case.

I remember there was talk a few years back about an indian-owned casino located either around Sidney (West-Central OH) or Middletown (between Dayton & Cinci)...I guess that fizzled out.

Ohio has really missed the bus and has seen quite a bit of revenue leave the state...Indiana, WV, Detroit, Canada, upstate New York, etc. has cashed in on those that seek gaming from outside the state.
 
Mountaineer passed

I was told that Mountaineer passed the table gaming issue by a 63 to 37 percent yes vote . They expect them to open Labor day week-end but those guys have the Presque Isle slots and they are no bargain , terrible food , and low payouts . Same ae the vegas deal if you ask me .
