This rates up there with the dumbest plays I've ever seen

Partially disagree

There are idiot players everywhere. Our job is to educate them and help them to become better players. Or simply to watch them and laugh.

I am more than willing to help a player who wants help, but recognize a couple of other things. Most horrible blackjack players actually think they know more about the game than anyone on earth and these players are welcome to their fantasy.

Most importantly is the game and the amount of money casinos must make on the game inorder for them to continue to offer a game that some of us could beat. Forget advantage play for a moment, but think what would happen if every player played perfect basic strategy. The house would be making something around their advantage .5% on blackjack! In the real world the casinos are making 5X that amount and only because there are poor to idiot players who bring that average way up.
If the casinos could not make that amount offering a good game then either the rules of blackjack would change drastically or blackjack itself would disappear.
We are in desperate, very desperate need of these idiots inorder to keep the game we presently have.

Casino Table Hold

I agree with IHate. Recently I read MTR 's quarterly report and it's current hold on BJ tables is between 15-17%.

I'm at third base, draw 9,9 dealer has 8 so I split. Guy next to me is giving me a rash of crap. Usually I ignore, but I told him to MYOB. I pull A, 10, dealer pulls a 10. End of discussion.

Entertainment only..lol

Once saw a guy put out a 10K bet, only to recieve 16 vs X. He then procedes to act like he's having a heart-attack:eek: and then procceds to fall out of his chair onto the floor. Ill never forget how the pitbosses were still asking him If he wanted to hit or stay as EMTs were carrying him out on a stretcher(About 6 of them.) while hitting him with about 5,000 volts with those paddle things. Reluctant to answer, and having no choice, he moans out staaaay.

You'll never guess what the next card was....a five:laugh: I still dont know to this day if that poor guy was faking or not, but if he was, it was only until he seen that five. And if he was, this is DEFINITELY the dumbest play ive ever seen.:joker:

A couple of weeks ago I was sitting next to a guy who was playing third base and he gets a pair of 6's, and the dealer has a six or less, I don't remember what it was exactly, so the dealer gets to him and asks him if he wants to split the 6's, and the guy says no. The dealer says, are you sure? And the guy said, "I don't believe in splitting." That's an exact quote. I wish now that I had asked him what he had experienced in his life that would cause him to not believe in splitting but still play blackjack, but I guess we were all too taken aback to say anything at all.

Your guys alter ego

Then there is the split everything guy. He splits his 6,6 vs dealer A, he also split 7,7 vs 10 (and won both) and his best move was where he is dealt a 20 on 3 consecutive hands and split them each time.
He splits his 10,10 vs 10, 8 and a dealer stiff. Two of the times he re-split, so he made those three hands into 8 and lost every one of them and at the times when the dealer showed a 10 and an 8 the dealer was pat and the guy had him beat. After losing those 8 hands he stands up to leave and shouts, "no one can beat this damm casino."
Me, I am wondering why I can not get dealt 3 straight 20's.

Here's another...not dumb move but dumb advice. Was playing in Mohegan Sun and friendly dealer told my I shouldn't surrender 16 vs 10 because...."the casino wouldn't offer surrender if unless they made money on it". hmm...wonder if competing with Foxwoods down the road has anything to do with them offering surrender.

the dealer was right, the casino does make money on it: when people surrender a hard 7 vs. 10. when they surrender 12 v 7, when they surrender 13 v 10, etc. i had a dealer tell me the same thing, if only he knew BS he would have known he was wrong. but, both of these dealers were right - for the wrong reason.

Kasi, are most splits offensive, or defensive?
A: offensive.

So how much of a disadvantge do you think never splitting would cost a player?

Maybe an extra bet every 3 hours for a BS player?

There are worse things to do lol.

lose about 0.13% advantage if DAS is allowed. (for single deck i think)
plenty of worse things doubtless. i can think of plenty with out hardly even trying lol.

i could calculate it from the back of BJA.... but so could you.
an extra bet every three hours is pretty serious.

how many bets does a BS player lose over 100 hands (1 hour), given a game with a EV of -0.50?

isn't it about 46 or 47 hands lost on average per hundred excluding pushs?

I doubt a $10 better would even notice the extra $20 he lost after 6 hours at a full table.

I'm more at 70/hands/hr at a full table lol.

Still, perhaps still playing better overall than the average ploppy if all else is good lol.

And, like the Wise One just said, it would depend on rules etc.

Hard to believe anyone wouldn't at least split A,A lol. I don't even think the table would let him get away with that lol.

No big deal.

Well by "bet" I just meant "betting unit" assuming flat-betting.

So in this case Mimosine meant he'd lose a "half-bet", maybe "half-unit" would be a better term lol, if he flat bet. So $5 for a $10 better lol.

I was guessing around .5% for the total cost. If he at least splits aces and 8's, it would really be low lol.

Now a player who never doubles................lol.

that's ok i'm young and easily confused lol.
but yeah the loss from not splitting in a das game would mostly come from not getting the doubles i think.
http://www.blackjackincolor.com/blackjackfirstcards3.htm
and QFIT shows where you don't get many pairs comparatively speaking in the first place.
but anyway those splits can be fun and when they work out really fun. lol
