    peculiar, unintended cover

I'd forgotten about this, from back in August. As it turns out, you're half right. He doesn't work for the casino...THAT casino. He's a PB from another casino in the area. I ran into him a couple weeks later when he was working floor in the other casino, a place where I play only very rarely.

    The Rivers Casino Extreme Makeover

Rivers' substantial weekday lunch hour crowd is not the least bit discriminating as to a preference for shoes -vs- CSMs.

Holy Rollers: The True Story of Card Counting Christians

I find it odd that you're not aware of your own movie's DVD sales. http://www.holyrollersthemovie.com/merchandise.html

    peculiar, unintended cover

I'm sitting at a table in a place I play regularly. Another regular -- entirely too regular, I have begun to realize -- is also there, and is sitting near me...again. He's trying to be conversational, but I'm feeling suspicious and resist the effort. He makes a comment about the low...

Mohegan Sun [Wilkes-Barre, PA] INFO PLEASE

http://www.pabulletin.com/secure/data/vol40/40-8/323.html § 549.12. Splitting pairs. (2) A player splitting aces may only have one card dealt to each ace and may not elect to receive additional cards. Or am I misunderstanding the question at hand?

    Wheeling Island Eliminated Surrender

Ten days ago, one dealer said surrender had been eliminated only for the duration of some promo they've got going. We can hope. Amen to that. I am constantly amazed at how few players at e.g. Rivers know even that the option exists, much less how to use it.

How is everyone else's year going so far?

Over the end of '09 and much of '10, I had built a reasonable BR, and I had moved into somewhat higher unit size. Then January '11 hit, and my household suffered a substantial economic meltdown (no relation to BJ play), so there went my carefully-built BR, drained into household support...

What would happen if someone were caught underage in a casino?

Nearest casino to Orlando please . . .

From listings at http://florida.casinocity.com/, looks like Seminole Hard Rock in Tampa, 85mi down I4 according to maps.google.com. It was to me. A very nice profit in 3 sessions over 2 days. Paid for vacation and then some.

bad attitude, educating newbies in BS

There's a world of difference between "not exactly the same way" (where opinions may reasonably differ) and "demonstrably, objectively bad play on nearly every hand" (e.g. hitting 15 against 6). The latter is condemnable. Refusal to accept any input or advice makes it doubly so.

Oh, yes, I see your point now. Pardon me for not picking up the contextual shift.

bad attitude, educating newbies in BS

You may have missed my initial observation that her cash reserves exceeded her skill. If she was good enough to be using index plays, I tend to think she would not have been losing nearly as consistently as she did. Anything's possible, I suppose -- a horrid period of negative variance for...

bad attitude, educating newbies in BS

Y'know, it's rather amazing to see how much the folks around here like to condemn anyone and everyone who doesn't play exactly like they do, or who doesn't think about the game exactly the way they do. The frequency with which I find a good player ruining my hand is comparatively small...

bad attitude, educating newbies in BS

I've been threatened with that virtually since I showed up here. Eh. Trust me, I recognize the statistical realities as well as the next guy. It is still true that, as a short-term observation, her failure to play a proper game had detrimental effects. No doubt, if I'd stuck around long...

bad attitude, educating newbies in BS

That, of course, was exactly my point. During the brief interlude during which this woman and I intersected at that table -- all of perhaps 15 hands, before my annoyance drove me onward -- i can say quite clearly that nothing she did ever helped my play. And it is clear from (e.g.) some cards...

bad attitude, educating newbies in BS

I was turning a really nice profit at Rivers last evening when a woman sat down on my right who proceeded to play the worst game of BJ I've ever seen. I realize we were all new once. Really, I do. She was standing on 14 against A, declining to split 8s, declining to double 11, hitting 15...

    one entertaining hand

Cruise ship. We were on vacation, at that time sailing north back toward Tampa. We've found cruising to be a lovely way to detach from the world for a week. We've already signed up to do another one in 2 years. The table's peculiar minimum is because they actually want players to play...

    one entertaining hand

About 10 days ago, this occurred: $6 table. $30 bet. Dealt 8,8 against dealer 5. Split. Hit 3 for 11, double, hit 10 for 21. Hit another 8. Split. Hit 2 for 10, double, hit 10 for 20. Hit another 8. Split. Hit 2 for 10, double, hit 9 for 19. Last hand, hit A for 19. Dealer turned...

    Quitting the day job

The last time that happened to me, my sequence was: lose, lose, BJ, lose, lose, BJ. And I had raised bets just in time for the BJs. It was lovely.
