2 or 3 top tips for a counter returning to the game

500 per week = $26,000 a year. If anyone could show me where you can invest $100,000 and make $26,000 I would be forever indebted to you.

I could make $25,000 on that $100,000 in one day, no joke. A whole year, easy as pie. If you don't believe me, just look at my market prediction thread in "anything else" :)

Reading is fundamental. Where did anyone suggest you could make $26,000 off a $100,000 investment. Go back, read the original post and let it ferment.
Eventually, you just might get it.+

Ok Fung, NOW this is beginning to sound fishy - even smell it.

How does a guy with $100k being just a small part of a buyout consider $26k/yr. a "decent wage"?

ok then...sheesh...maybe because i've been playing music for years and years for like $300-400/month and enjoyed every friggin second of it...the idea of making $500/week doing something that is that much pure fun seems like a "decent wage" relatively, although in absolute terms it is living at the poverty level...

hell i often tell our audience (jokenly) i would PAY THEM for the amount of fun i have on stage doing my thing...

for you guys "smelling fish"...perhaps you could navigate to my (Dead link: http://www.headshotrocks.com) _current bands website_ and listen to my guitar playing on some of the demo songs. my solos in "Crazy Bitch" and our remake of Lionel Richie's "Hello" adequately capture a portion of my talent...

(Dead link: http://www.headshotrocks.com) ... also be aware that i did all the engineering and producing on those demos in my home studio, so that is also a marketable talent.

...i know I KNOW already..the singing on those demos is substandard and nowhere near good enough to "make it" in a city like Vegas...its the guitar playing that is being recognized

i think all this is beside the point anyway...i've discovered that my needs can met with a MUCH smaller income then i make today, AS LONG AS IM DOING SOMETHING THAT I TRULY ENJOY DOING. doesn't everyone, deep down, feel that way?

i want to thank all you guys for all the fantastic input that you have giving me...you have made me reconsider my entire approach to be honest. for that i am truly grateful, and i look forward to lurking around the forums here, blogging about my adventure as it unfolds...

regards,

The guitar playing is pretty good. The main problem from what I hear is that songs sometimes sound too disjointed.

MAZ and PRO21 have it right for playing cards full time. Forget about grinding away 40hours a week counting a table, the mind and body can't take it for long even if you could get away with it. Set up your finances so you live off a steady income like a retired person and treat music and blackjack as enjoyable recreation that pays a little. Keep your eyes open for better advantages and educate yourself. Beyond Counting (Grosjean) and Casino Game Protection (Forte) are two great sources to get your mind thinking. The rest you'll have to figure out. At least that's been my experience.

Anyone can make it in a day. Few can make it in a year every year. Only the best of the best can make that when their portfolio exceeds 100M.

In all seriousness, advance me the $100,000. I'll give you $550 a week guarenteed( 10% more than you are looking for) and you'll need do nothing.
At the end of five years, you'll get your entire $100,00 back in one lump sum.

right its called a tax-free muni-bond paying a 5.5% coupon...i dont know where everyone got the idea that all i wanted to make is $500/week...THAT'S JUST FOR PLAYING IN A BAND, PEOPLE!! NOT COUNTING CARDS!!

I 'd like to know how a thread in the card counting section in which the poster asked for advise for an experienced card counter turned into advice and an examination of his finances? Seems to me he has done a pretty damn good job of handling his finances and didn't ask for, and I suspect doesn't need advice in that area. The line where he says he is only using a small portion of his finances for his $100K BR, is a pretty good indication. :)

I believe a 5.5% coupon on $100k would pay $5.5k, not the $28.6k shad if offering.

I was not inferring that $500/wk was all you wanted to make, my comment was how a guy who claims to be sitting on several 100 large could call $500/wk "decent money".:laugh::laugh::laugh:

now that's funny:laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh:

well im gonna, but im not looking to play in the big big venues...ill be happy with $500/week or so. im sure breaking in will have its share of challenges and perhaps i am being naive, but that's just part of the whole experience.

thanks for your input

I misread this post. It seemed to me he was referring to making $500 a week playing BJ, not music. I still agree with Sharky.

I agree with kewljason. He never said he wanted to live off of $500/wk. He never said he intended to live on $500/wk or that $500/wk would replace his previous income. He has money set aside for living expenses from the buyout. He just wants to pursue a hobby (music) and thinks that $500/wk might be a reasonable expected earning rate. It has nothing to do with his desire to play blackjack. The only think I had a problem with was where he said playing BJ should earn him 10x that amount. Based on kewljason's 2009 results for playing full time at about the same stakes, I think that the OP is grossly overestimating his BJ earning potential.

You don't think he can make $260,000 a year playing BJ with a $100,000 BR?

...the bulk my my income will be made playing blackjack. my expected win at 40hours/week should be around 10x that..

fungusAmongus:

Just remember there are no guarantees of income off blackjack.

The negative variance can last for months, you can end up have a losing year, and of course, it is statistically possible to lose one's entire bankroll (even with your low ROR).

Remember to act totally disinterested in the cards. Talk to others at the table. Don't look like a counter.

Can you always keep the count in actual casino conditions? If not, perfect everything at red--then go to green.

I don't think he can with straight counting at his proposed spread. But, I'm not really qualified to say. I'm just basing that on kewljason playing just about the same spread, playing full time, and earning somewhere around $70k, which I believe was also roughly his EV. Of course, with a $100k bankroll and without having to pay living expenses out of that bankroll, he would be playing at a very, very low risk of ruin spreading $25-400. I would not be at all surprised if $260k on a $100k bankroll could be done playing full time for a year. I would just be surprised if it could be done with straight counting while spreading $25-400. But, I've been wrong before :)
