Any sense in card counting (and using a basic strategy) or just a waste of time if:

6-deck game with ~50% penetration
Limits: $5 - $200
BJ pays 3 to 2
Dealer stands on all 17s
Split on any
Double after splitting allowed

Thanks for the answers.

No sense in counting with that penetration, unless your spread is absolutely huge
Thanks.
I don't have much options to play, so taking into account that I'm "stuck" with these conditions, how large the spread should be (the limits are 5-200)? And besides, if need be I'll be able to bet on one, two or three spots at a time.

bj6d,

Where is the casino where you are playing? Are you sure there isn't a better option just a few miles away? Some of this depends on if you're wonging in and out. But, if you decide to play heads-up, then a 1-20 unit spread might make this playable (using the Snyder Profit Index). This could be accomplished by spreading to 2-3 hands when the count is favorable, and not just plunking 20 units out on one spot! :)

Thanks. Nothing else within the distance, only this with the mentioned options/rules. I can utilize the 1-20 spread and will be able to spread the bets between several spots. Any advise on what counting and beting units techniques to use taking into account the described scenario?

Can you backcount and wong in? If so, that's your best option - just wait for a positive count, as there won't be that many with only 1/2 the cards dealt.

Yes, for now I'm able to backcount and wait for the positives.

Only you can decide if it's a waste of your time or not being limited to a 40-1 spread and/or back-counting or not if mid-shoe entry is allowed or wonging out if it's not. Or even playing all.

Or even voodooing it.

Your money. What risk are you willing to subject it to make whatever over how long?

But, since you have to ask, and therefore is assumed you can't answer your own question, the answer is obvious. Put your roll in a taxable interest-bearing checking account at 0.5%/year and you'll be better off with 100% certainty. It won't even take much time. Don't exceed the federally insured limits per account though. These days that's too much unnecessary risk to take on.

The only thing that would make sense to me with 50% pen would be to wong in LATE in the shoe and only if the count is really high. Gotta be better games for you elsewhere! Good luck.
