A lilttle fun in a $5 min/max game

Just finished up a ski trip to the Colo Rockies, and on the way back to Denver we stopped in one of the little towns just off I-70 where casinos are permitted. Only thing is the betting limit (until this summer) is limited to $5.

So, I walked into a old-west saloon-looking place and saw lots of slots, and they were actually dispensing coins, not tickets. I asked if there was any blackjack, and was pointed in that direction.

Once in the "table area," there were 2 tables - one for BJ and one for 3CP. One guy was sitting at the BJ table, just getting started. Rules were posted on the wall - S17, DAS, NS. 4 deck shoe, dealer cut off about 1/2 deck. Dealer asked if I wanted to play and I said I'd watch a bit first. After a few round count is +1, so I bought in and put out 2 x $5. Count kept climbing and I spread to 4 spots, thinking to myself, what a shame I can't increase my bet. After the shoe ended, I left the table up $35. One other thing, no rat-holing here. The "chips" were very heavy metal coins, similar in size to an old silver dollar.
 
I'd imagine those coins to be a pain in the ass to stack well?

Also, in your post did you mean that come this summer, they were going to increase the limits?
 
Excellent pen but really a complete wate of time from an AP point of view. You can't win consistently from flat betting.

But I understand you were playing for fun and there is nothing wrong with that.

I remember reading somewhere that the max will be $100, I believe.

I'm heading out that way Friday, might just check out Cripple Creek while driving around.

Reminds me of a session I played at the 4-Way in Wells NV, 4D game with $25 max. I had just eaten at a very special diner in Wells, took gas and walked into the casino near the gas station to take a break. It looked just like a luncheonette with blackjack layouts on a couple of tables.

If the slots take coins there is a minor AP move you can do on them. There are real silver dollars and halves circulating in slot machines and rumor has it you can occasionally still find a Morgan out west. When the slots at Mohegan still took coins I would put $100 bills into one, cash out until I filled up a bucket and stack the coins up on a table in the food court, examining them edgewise and picking a couple of silver halves out of each bucket before cashing in the rest. I found a Franklin once but never a Morgan or anything really cool. Silver was down then so this activity didn't pay much more than minimum wage, but I suppose it could be useful for an AP down on his luck needing a few bucks.
 
I will be going thru Col. in the next week or so to work in Utah. Where are these little casinos? This could be a great exploit if they would raise minimums.:joker::eyepatch:

Yes. On July 2, limit will be $100. Also they will be open 24h/day, and also adding craps and some other games.

Blackhawk and Central City, about 10 minutes off I-70. about 30 miles west of Denver. Blackhawk is by far the bigger of the two, but they are only a few minutes apart.

My guess is they have no clue about counters with the $5 limits. I wonder how quickly they will get educated once the limits rise?

Oh that's OK - I know you just meant you can't win enough money to make it worthwhile to most people lol.

And also that you know a flat-betting backcounter is playing a +EV game lol.
