I will put this in the "AC - No Vision" category. AC didn't see a lot of things coming most notably PA gaming. The east coast knows what trains can and can't do for your business. I think if the NJT line from Point Pleasant had been extended to AC somewhere in the past 30 years, AC would be in a lot better shape than it is today.

They'd need to extend the rails to stop at each casino if they seriously wanted to promote rail travel to AC. Then they could have promoted a 2 hour ride directly from New York City to any casino.

Sure they could do it with an extended rail line to AC train station, and a light rail system.
When you think about it, its actually absurd that the gambling mecca of the world is in the middle of nowhere desert, while a beachfront resort city within a few hours driving distance of tens of millions of people in the most densely populated region of the country.
Probably not so absurd, look at the politicians NJ residents elect, and especially the local AC population and who they are likely to elect.
Back in the late 90s, there was a proposal for a aerial cable car to run from the train station/convention center to the boardwalk, and then over the boardwalk to the various casinos. This was before Borgota became the big fish in town. The Jitney owners were very oppossed to it for obviuos reasons.

I didn't mean a stop at every casino. I was saying that the line from the north needed to at least get to AC and not end 60 miles away. If it were extended from the north it could come into the same station as the AC-Philly line and you could get a cab from there. Or if you feel especially lucky, you could walk over to the boardwalk:

I'm satisfied with the jitney service once you're in town. The ones that stop at the bus and train station circulate you from there through town efficiently.
The jits were worried about the Harrah's shuttle taking their business away and that will never happen. I think I've successfully ridden that shuttle once; every other attempt I walked away cursing and a half hour late, and got on the jitney.

The Jitney seems expensive compared to a city bus just to get around town. But in comparison, the Deuce in Vegas is $5 one way or $7 for 24 hours.

For our purposes it's not expensive, assuming we're making $20-$100 per hour at the table cutting 20 minutes off a trip from one end of the Boardwalk to another is well worth it. In terms of EV it's even cheaper than driving, because it drops you off at the front door of the store and spares you the time finding a parking spot and moving from the parking lot to the casino floor.
It's also safer than a parking lot or walking through the no-man's lands on the Boardwalk at 4 AM, or God forbid, trying to walk to or from the Marina.
I've only taken the Douche in LV once, and that was odious, but the best alternative if you don't have a car handy. Another useful jit is the one running around Laughlin.

True, I guess I never looked at it that way. I usually drive to AC so I drive between the casinos, or I take the Total Rewards shuttle.

This happened to me so many times that I stopped going to the shuttle and started calling it (Total Express Shuttle as the Evil Empire likes to put it) as the Total Depressed Shuttle. AM, you and I should hit AC sometime so we can commiserate about all the stupid things that gone down in AC.
Please tell me you have a 6abistro story for me also. I bet the service was great

Oh don't go to the 6ix. Unless the only other choice is the Hilton 24-hour joint! 6ix draws a bad crowd too, same a-holes that are at the tables in Bally's.
If you want good service mid-Boardwalk, go to the Roy Rogers- type place at the WWW and get a hamburger or two. The Asian noodle bar as Caesar's isn't bad either, and Nero's upstairs if you want to sit down a while and eat something fancier.
Uptown- I like Breadsticks at Resorts, service is tolerable and the food is near Greek diner-quality.
Downtown- Zeytinia's market in the Quarter at Tropicana. It isn't cheap, but being it is self-service the service will be good, and the food is too.
You mean Johnny Rockets? Much better than Roy Rogers... (and they keep some tables empty for Diamonds)

No this is a 24-hour place next to the C&W bar in the WWW that is set up exactly like a Roy Rogers. Very convenient- I've been able to get a hamburger during a shuffle and stand at the table, miss the beginning of the shoe as I wolf it down.
Bally's daytime I'll go to Pickles, the imitation kosher deli.

The best thing is AC is the C&W bar next to it, $2 beers, $2 shots! If they only had a decent VP machine at the bar.OK< now I know what you mean. Pickles is very good, too, and they have excellent pickles
