Alias

#1
We have a small problem. We have a three man team but our BP is not of age for high limit casinos. He is a city boy that can play his part. He has a good legend(story) and can count like its watching television. (23 seconds a deck) He can Key Sequence and cut 1.3 average cards from 1 deck. Are bankroll is only in the thousands. The problem is he is 19 and the kind of guy that stands out. We were wondering how legal alias' work and/or other ways to legally get him in and use him. Even if hes only a back counter for two tables. If there is no legal way I am still curious about other thoughts about this. He has over 150 hours experience in-field at our small local casinos. (18+) We are thinking about either California, Vegas, or Shreveport.

Please, any assistants will be greatly appreciated!

An alias won't change the legal issue of age, regardless of the legality of the alias.

Different question: Does California have some age-18 casinos? I'm not sure, but it sounds vaguely familiar.

Underage gambling is never "legal".

I think that Canada or a cruise ship are the only legal options for your team. Even if you were all over 21, "alias" is an expensive objective since 9-11, especially a legal one. More than expensive, it's extremely time consuming.

However, this leads to another problem that Canada and cruise ships pose. You said your team only has a four-digit bankroll. I have a possible solution. Subscribe to CBJN so that you can remain up-to-date on the mediocre Canadian rules. (It won't help you with cruise ships but when you get a better idea of what you are going to do, you can inquire on the internet about those rules.) Then, wait to a couple of the girlfriends are bugging you guys about a vacation or "something fun." Then you guys play the studs as you plan a short trip to Canada or a cruise ship. You'll probably only be able to afford about one week of play per year with the kid until he turns 21 but atleast you all can legally play a little 21.

Oh, yes. I'm sorry. I forgot to mention the many tribal casinos that allow 18 y/o gambling. CBJN will also list table stats. for those casinos as well. Most LV/AC gamblers such as myself really don't "need" CBJN. However, I think your team is one the few examples that actually "need" CBJN.

Still trying to figure out why the counting ability of the BP is needed. Don't the spotters signal the BP in and out of the game? Why is the BP backcounting two tables? What are the other two members of the 3-man team doing while he does that (maybe watching the 1000s of dollars in bankroll)?

wouldn't the BP backcounting while he was waiting for a signal from a spotter be more efficient than if he was just standing around waiting?

Actually the BP does not need spotters to be signaled out of the game. In the best scenario for this style of play the spotter will signal the BP to the hot table and leave to count another one once the count is passed off. Hopefully this can be done with spotters backcounting, but if the spotter needs to sit at the table its best for them to leave when the BP arrives. This can be done quite smoothly with some practice as people are leaving and jumping into tables all the time.

It would be a gorilla BP that would need to be signaled at the table by spotters. The gorilla is usually a good casino presence type that needs to do nothing but be able to follow signals. Knowing BS helps but there is no real need for the gorilla to do any counting.

Most indian casinos in Cali are 18 and over. The cruise that I went on a year ago had automatic shufflers and all the games were super crowded anyways.

before i moved out here the majority of indian casinos started serving alcohol on the floor and therefore was 21 and over, i know jackson rancheria was decent a while back and is still 18 and over, its almost rare to find one in cali. anymore, the one i used to take my wife to almost to oregon is now 21 and teh places i played before turning 21 went 21 + a long time ago

shreveport a few months ago in the casinos i went to were all 21, i believe its a LA state law but im not too sure

It is kind of hard to run a BP play if your BP is "made" and considered another backcounting wonger.

The spotters always getting up from a table when the BP arrives would send up some more flags, as they play follow-the-leader around the pit.

Yes, to your first point, not really to your second. If you played long sessions and kept playing the same tables, your thinking may be a possiblity. But since thats not really the way you should play it, it can be a very natural transition. It does not have to be 1 player gets up the other sits down immediately. There is somewhat of an art to the procedure that should be practiced. Its just like anything. You can read a book and learn something, practically applying it usually takes some doing to pull it off with proficiency.

this doesnt really answer your question about 18+ casinos, but i will point out that at since your bankroll is "only in the thousands" there is no need for theis BP style of play. split up the money, play individually, and combine results to reduce variance and get more hours in. BP concepts are only really needed when you really need to get some big money down on the table, which, with a small bankroll in thousands, you will not be doing...

The ones where you can buy a drink (booze is not free in CA) are 21 it seems and the others are 18, but there may be other reasons also.

nope. the rhyme and reason are a bit of a mystery. i'm trying to think of a casino that serves EtOH, but allows 18 YOs to gamble... maybe ihate17 is right....
