'Antiquated' ban on cell phones in sports books could be lifted

Sheesh ... finally, some common sense.

The rules are stupid and the enforcement of the rules is even dumber. I once got chastised because I got a cell phone call while walking from the Bellagio poker room to the bathrooms (which entails cutting through 20 feet of the sports book). It was actually 10:05, 5 minutes AFTER the sports book had closed, but I pulled my cell phone out of my pocket and some dick manager was all over me like stink on poop.

Last month’s vote by the Nevada Gaming Commission to permanently repeal a long-standing ban on the use of cell phones and other electronic communications devices in sports books couldn’t have come soon enough for Nevada casinos, which began removing those ubiquitous, misunderstood and often overlooked signs in sports books requesting that customers make calls elsewhere.

My last visit to Vegas in June I was sitting in a lounge on the outskirts of the Sports book at the Mirage trying to phone home to my wife facing away from the area of the Sportsbook and I stilled got hassled by some over zealous employee.

Glad to see that silly rule gone. Can't wait to go back there and stand around with my cell phone at or near every Sports Book I walk by.
