Atlantic city card counting:

#1
hey guys,

im clearly new here, but have been a lurker for a little while now. im a beginner in blackjack, i have a pretty good handle on the basic strategy card though.

im going to AC for new years, and then staying through sunday. im hoping to find some $5 hands on thurs. to mess with the counting stuff. i know im not going to be perfect but i figure ya gotta start somewhere!

anyway, i tried a quick search but what would be a good basic system to use for the 8D dealer hits on soft 17 bj? im thinking KO would be better then hi-lo.. but you guys are the experts!

thanks

that compares different betting systems.

ko is easier than hi-lo. it is unbalanced so you make your bets accourding the the Running Count. with hi-lo you make bets acourding to the True Count which is RC/# of decks remaining.

mastering cardcounting doesnt happen over night. even if you can count through a deck in 20 seconds, doesnt mean you'll be successful. there is still a lot of information you need to know before entering a casino if you dont want to loose all your money due to normal fluctuations of the game

..

i agree, like i said im not living in a fantacy land and thinking i'll make thousands and thousands of dollars off the bat, or ever. i think its something i can learn though and in time be proficent at it. im an engineering major so im pretty good with numbers, and this seems like i can have fun while "trying" to make some money too!

i actually just bought:

Knock-Out Blackjack: The Easiest Card-Counting System Ever Devised

Blackjack Bluebook II - the simplest winning strategies ever published

Basic Blackjack
stanley wong

From amazon, i'll be reading up on those as soon as they arrive.

Why would you want to play 8D H17 games when there are better games in AC?

Find a game where the dealer stays on soft 17 (S17.) In the Harrahs joints, you'll only find them at Caesars and in the pit near the high roller slots. You can also find them at Hilton, Trop, Trump Plaza and Borgata.

we are actually staying in harrahs... i have only been to AC a few times and didnt know much the times i was there.

i will definitly try to find the S17 games to try my luck on.

Huh?

What does this mean:

"I'm hoping to find some $5 hands on thurs. to mess with the counting stuff."

I assume that you mean that you want to play at a table with $5 minimum bets.

That does not exist anywhere in the Northeast.

Finding $10 tables can be troublesome at times, and do not exist at all in some places.

I hope that you understand that if you intend to play at a $10 table,
then you cannot properly attack that table - using basic K.O. without a lot of money in your jeans.

To break even at an 8 deck game (without perfect play, and and using a not very powerful unbalanced count)) means that you will need to spread at least 8-1 That means that you will be betting up to $80 per hand. That requires a bankroll that is adequate to the task. Adequate as in producing a reasonably low "Risk-of-Ruin" That means, as a minimal Bankroll, you need to be seated with $800 in cash.

If you attempt to play with substantially less cash (money that you are fullywilling to lose if need be) then your Risk is so high, that you'll probably have a probability of "tapping out" that will be well over 40%

Think about that.

Strong Suggestion.

Harrah's is all H17 with poor penetration. You'll have almost no chance to win there.

You really should go to The Tropicana where there are not only $10 games that are S17 but there is a pit where they are using only FOUR (4) decks.

Since that is the best game in the entire NorthEast it is a great game for you to start at.

Easy flash, i know i dont know it all, and im not expecting to win alot at all, its a trial to see where im at with counting and stragey. I had herd of $5 games, but the last times I only found the $15 hands, both times I was at harrahs just using the standard strategy I won $500 and $600 (i know its not much). Im sure it was more luck then anything but if I fail miserably on the counting i'll just scratch it up as a learning experience and train more before trying it again.

again, im a newbee try to take it easy on me....:whip:

First of all you are not gonna really find a 5$ game anywhere if you do it will be full all the time. I also believe that f you look you can find better games then what you expect to play. I also agree with flash that you should stick to the tropicana, borgota, or hilton. I used to use a unbalanced count but did not relize what i was losing by not running a balanced. I know it is much more appealing because of ease of use, but i would go with the hi-lo for your purposes. You can also you some indices with the count and get a better edge.

You my friend are NOT a professional player. Or at least are one of the most misinformed ones I have ever seen. This post is false, although to a newb it may seem true at first glance. And I think 21forme has pointed out your other post in this thread to be false. Looking back at most of what you've said you have had to repeatedly apologize for inaccuracies. How about dropping the act and chill out for a while. Maybe invent a new screen name and come back as someone who doesn't know everything, and what you think you do know, you won't have to be sorry for being wrong about it.
Now get to the back of the bus and let someone else drive it who knows how.

Nickel Action in A.C.

It is not that surprising as business is significantly off for casinos nation-wide.

Could you kindly list the stores that are offering $5 action ?

The advantage gained by using Hi-Lo vs. KO is negligible. Sure, it's stated that way in the KO book, but it has been documented via sims here on this board.

good luck

ive only been to a casino once, it was at the borgata over the summer and they did have $5 tables there. but it probably only lasted for a few hours or so before the casino got more crowded and started raising table minimums. From what i know, you just have to find a day and time when it isnt busy and you'll get the $5 tables. my friend tells me its usually less busy on weekday nights from like 1am to 5am.

its probably good that he learns hi-lo anyway incase he plans on moving up to level 2 or level 3 count.

Unless i am sadly mistaken, other than the single (permanently full) FIVE DOLLAR
($5) table at Borgata, there are NO tables under $10 in A.C.

Will someone please correct me if I am wrong here.
