Actually not a Badge of Honor. I would rather not have that happen. Been given the tap twice. Have successfully played one of the stores since and will give the other a try in July when I head back to Vegas.pogostick said:

I understand what you mean, backoffs can be amusing, but they are not a badge of honor. Compare them to penalties in football. If you never get any, that means you're not playing aggressively enough, but if you get too many you won't be winning any games either.pogostick said:

Agreed with the posters above. I think the "Badge of Honor" is reserved for those like KJ who have never been thrown out!

I have been backed off a few times dye. Never been 'officially' trespassed. Had one incident where I was rudely told to get the hell out of here. I don't consider it a badge of honor to have minimized these. I think of it more as I run fast. :laugh:Dyepaintball12 said:
There are those that feel that if you aren't backed off regularly, then you aren't pushing the envelope enough. In a sense, leaving money on the table. I don't feel that way. If you play enough, you can tell when you have pushed enough and the heat is coming. Pushing just a bit harder or waiting a couple more minutes until it gets there serves no purpose.

For APs, it is one of the worst things to their career. It's like losing good customers or potential future customers..
I've people who want to experience the backoff. I remember a friend who has paid my dinner for booking a backoff on his players card. He was all celebrating when pit boss ask him to leave the blackjack table. They were all cheering and taking shots and pics.. Pit boss was all in shock..pogostick said:

As a counter if you are doing it properly that includes not getting heat that affects your ability to play. Being backed off is a badge of shame that means you failed in assessing what you could get away with and your bottom line is now at risk. The trick is to push the limits without crossing the boundary.

I don't fully agree. There is a certain amount of uncertainty on the boundary. To return to the football analogy, there are technically legal moves that some refs will see as a hold, some refs will see as a clip, etc., and to avoid these movements because you might occasionally have a ref who is fanatical about making a certain call, or perhaps just the angle and the timing of the play might cause him to see it as something its not, that's not a very effective way to play football. You have to understand that if you are playing with an advantage at all, there are PC's and surveillance people who will know it and not tolerate any kind of advantage play, and there you go. The only way to completely eliminate those kinds of backoffs is to not play with an advantage, and even that might not do it because ploppies get mistakenly backed off all the time.tthree said:

There is something to be said for 'erring on the side of caution'. Plus as stated, with experience you can feel the heat and should know just where that line is prior to an actual backoff. At least in most cases.

As my style of play is super aggressive in your face pull purples out your pocket to buy change so I can spread to 4 hands and split tens every fukcing time at a 5 dollar min table in downtown vegas....
I think I got backed off. 12 times in just 9 days of playing vegas.

this is exactly right. counting is obvious. if you want backed off you wouldnt event have to really count, just making a rough estimate of the deck composition and betting the maximum spread in most places would give you a solid advantage and uickly get you backed off. my backoffs both came from being too aggressive and not having enough information on how things worked in the area. both times i dont think such information really existed or was readily avilable and probably isnt now either.Ferretnparrot said:
