you probably know which book I read this in but why does the book seem to discourage the use of a baseball cap. I guess my real question is, have you experienced heat that you think might have been otherwise avoided if you had not been wearing a baseball cap? I got married to the idea of wearing a baseball cap untill I read the book. your thoughts please !

I worked long and hard to come up with the ultimate camouflage... which consisted of dressing in drag. No baseball hat!!!! The only problem was that I ended up looking and sounding so much like Joan Rivers that I was being pestered for autographs, which really hurt my ability to focus on the game!
I also avoided ordering bottled water...

If you haven't already read it, read DV Cellini's book. Hang up the cap in Vegas: "let's check out The Cat In The Hat."
However, in a Southern casino (where a lot of cowboy hats are prevalent like in Bossier City, LA), what do you guys think about your chances of getting away with a cowboy hat if you're outfitted head-to-toe in Western duds?

When I was in Shreveport/Bossier, the patrons were dressed fairly normally.
(*)An exception might be when a rodeo is in town.

Remember in Burning The Tables that IA personally had many guises and disguises.
As far as guises he was a developer, a farmer, an investment banker, a sexual therapist, a travel agent, a money manager, an international corporate lawyer, a professor, a psychiatrist, and an antique dealer. He dressed each part and used an accent or adjusted his dialect if the part required so. I found it amusing the one guise he could never convince people of (on the airplane) is that he was a professional gambler by trade!
Perhaps his most famous disguise was wearing his professional Hollywood make-up while appearing on The Merv Griffin Show; this is the appearance that transformed IA from a young man in his 30s into a version of Colonel Sanders, complete with Foghorn Leghorn accent and walking stick.

Few takers on that prospect, Kat... I am just thankful you were not around, buddy as you would have made life rough when you slid a hand onto the inside of my hairy thigh!!! Hahahahaaaa
I did read up on Cellini's comments and it made for interesting reading. Some of the information has since been outdated with regard to VHS tapes and the grainy photos from recording over the same tape. Everything is digital now and HUGE amounts of video are much more easily stored and video has become of much better quality. The former surveillance guy that has posted recently is the guy to ask about length of time things are stored (currently) and quality of video maybe for what is the current state of affairs with that.
Well, I am about to adjust my girdle, my "falsies" and bra, make sure my wig and mascara look okay... and skip my Joan Rivers looking ass down to the casino! Have a great day all!

Seriously, the baseball cap is a counter stereotype so I'll never wear one. Except sometimes I might. The best way is to not always do anything, and not never do anything, so they get zero information from anything you do or not do.

One rule does not fit all. I often have landed up in Vegas during rodeo time and now own a very nice Stetson and the proper outfits to just be another cowboy having fun in Vegas.
I would think if there was a major sports collectibles convention at the casino where you are playing, then stuff like a baseball cap, jerseys etc would blend nicely.
In Bossier City the cowboy hat will work while the Harvard sweatshirt probably will not.
