Basic Strategy App

Thanks. I saw many problems:

1. When I changed the rules settings, the BS chart didn't adjust. It remained the same as for the default setting.

2. There were many mistakes in the BS. You need to either go online to the Basic Strategy Engine at blackjackinfo.com or look at the BS charts in BJA3.
For example, with DAS, 4-4 should be split vs. 5-6.
A,6 should surely not be doubled vs. Ace!
16 should be surrendered vs. Ace.
If S17, A,8 shouldn't be doubled vs. 6, nor A,7 vs. 2.

I'm sure there are others. I stopped looking.

3. As for the interface, make the dealer's upcard the entire card! Don't hide it under the hole card, which, logically, goes BELOW the dealer's upcard, not on top of it. Also, make all the cards larger and easier to read quickly.

Fix all these things and then let me look at it again.

Ok, we've cleaned up a lot of the logic:
https://bjinfo-strategy-app.vercel.app/

You might need to do a hard refresh (or open it in incognito window) to see the latest version. The interface might be slightly off on desktop but it looks much better on mobile

Everything looked great except when I went to play a hand in practice. There were no choices below for the decision, just the cards on the screen.

Better! New problem: I switched on late surrender. There is no choice for "first two cards only," as opposed to "any number of cards" (which is very rare and probably not worth programming).

So, I had 2,8 vs. dealer's Ten. I hit and got a 6, for 16. So, I hit again (even though multi-card strategy for 16 vs. T is to stand. I knew you wouldn't have programmed that.) Anyway, it told me I was wrong and that I should have surrendered! Er, sorry, no can do! So, that has to be fixed.

Don

Sorry, one more problem. Just got 15 vs. T. There is no choice in the blue boxes below for surrender. So, you have to reprogram so that when surrender is chosen for the BS chart, you offer that as an option for all potential surrenders (not just the right ones!).

Not yet! More issues!

1. Please do something with the green bar that tells you if you were correct or not. It covers the player's hit cards and doesn't allow you to make the next decision until it disappears from the screen. It's very annoying. Put it off to the side somewhere where it doesn't interfere with seeing the cards.

2. If you aren't going to play out the dealer's hand, to see what the outcome is, then there's no reason to display the dealer's hole card. It serves no purpose to know what it was.

3. For pair splits, the first active hand for the player should be the one to his RIGHT. You have it backwards. The hands are played from right to left, not from left to right.

I have one more request, perhaps a little trickier. You properly reveal the dealer's hole card by exposing it to the dealer's left, and our right, on the screen. But all subsequent dealer hit cards should be revealed to the RIGHT of the dealer's original upcard and progressively to the player's left.

Can you fix that, for greater authenticity? Thanks.

OK, so two things: 1) You've fixed the way the dealer takes his hit cards, but when you run out of room, because he hits multiple times, you're tucking the successive cards UNDER the already existing ones, which you must not do. If you have to overlap, because of space considerations, make sure that the player can see the ENTIRE new card; don't tuck it under an existing card. When you're counting, you need to see the whole card as it hits the felt.

Next possibility: allow the player to make strategy deviations as he's counting. Incorporate the I18, or maybe the Catch 22, and then the Fab4 for surrender. I got flagged for standing on 16 vs. T on a very high count, and I didn't like being told that I was wrong! :)

Ok should be fixed now.

Ahh my bad, it actually already incoporated illustrious 18 but it was turned off by default in the settings (which is the cog on the top left). I've set it to on now by default

OK, better. However, ... I had double on any two cards chosen for the rules, had a monster count, 8 vs. 4, and it wouldn't let me double! Why would that be?
Also, instead of your sliding line for the penetration, can you not find a way to put a discard tray instead? It isn't very easy to estimate decks remaining the way you're doing it, and, of course, it isn't realistic.
