Be the Dealer?

Hey everyone.

I play at Casino Windsor, and the other day I was by the Craps tables and saw a new Blackjack game.

While I am not quite sure of all the rules as it was full, it was definitely not regular blackjack.

There were 2 betting circles, one on top of the other, and it seems like you could either bet for the player or as the dealer.

Anyone know about this?

It sounds like "Winners option Blackjack". I've noticed this game is starting to pop up around different casinos. I got excited the first time I saw this game thinking that you would be able to bet the players spot in pos counts and the dealer spot in neg counts. I got a copy of the rules from the casino and when I got home I tried to find an edge. Unfortunately there is none because when you play the dealers spot you have no options on hitting. Here's how the game works.

There are two spots on the table in the shape of diamonds. One with the letter "P" for player and one with a "D" for the dealer. You can play one or the other spot but not both. If you play the player spot "P" it is just regular blackjack. If you choose to play the dealers spot "D", you now must play your hand identically like the dealer. So you must draw to 16 and stand on all 17's and above. Now because you play like the dealer you cannot double down or split and blackjacks only pay 1-1. Now the object of the game when playing "D" is to lose to the dealer hand. So if you get a blackjack the only way you can win is if the dealer busts. If you get a 19 you need the dealer to get a 20 or 21 for you to win. Sounds crazy, well it is a total sucker bet. Also if both you and the dealer bust then you lose half of your bet.

Whenever I've seen this game very few patrons actually play the dealers spot, it is just not a good bet and most ploppies don't understand the game because there are no rules displayed. I don't see this game lasting very long. Does this sound like the game Dyepaint?

Our new game, BlackJack eXtreme is a completely different way of playing. The dealership passes to the next player after each hand. The cards are dealt one up and one down. The dealer rolls his own, and may surrender after seeing players have "adjusted" their bets before showing their hole cards. The dealer may hit ANY soft hand and once the game is down to two players at the table (true "heads up") he/she can hit any hand -hard or soft.

is this game worth playing if you just play the players spot and it has good rules? because it is the only shoe game around here with 5 dollar min (opposed to 15 min for other shoe games)

if so it may be worth looking in to.....

At casino windsor I end up at these tables alot not because of the Dealer option but because there are usually two or three empty spots even on a friday night. This is great for backcounting. So for this reason alone I hope they continue the game for a long time. Maybe most people are unaware that it is just regular BJ with an option. On the rare occasion I've seen someone play the dealer spot, I dont remember many people winning and twice when they did the dealer was confused as to how figure a win and had to get assistance from the pit.. Most of the time it's a "what the heck lets try it" kind of a thing and then back to regular BJ. I've never seen anyone play it in a stategic way. This it just my observation.

Yes if you play the players spot it is just regular blackjack.

I've found that as well that these tables are great for backcounting, because the table layout is so alien to a lot of ploppies that it intimidates them then they just go to the blackjack table next to it. There is no strategic way to play this game because there are no options like splitting or doubling when you play the dealers spot. I watched as one dealer kept making payout errors, mostly in the houses favour, however one player got paid when he actually lost but told the dealer she made a mistake. I could see she was getting frustrated, then she made a comment to the table that the casino only trained them for 20 minutes on the new game. The thing is when patrons play the dealer spot it throws the dealer out of their rhythm because some of the payouts are normal and some are opposite. Dealer mistakes is the only way you could profit from the game.

Quick Note:
Caesars Windsor (formely Casino Windsor) has changed the rules on its Winners Option BJ table so that the player can no longer resplit aces.
