Betting for the dealer

betting for the dealer is when you put a tip that you might give the dealer and put it infront of your bet halfway in and out of the betting circle. that way for the dealer to win his tip and double it, you would have to win too.
it is also nice to tip when you are winning and have a good dealer that is helping you out. tipping is how they make most of there money. just like a waiter. however if the dealer is being a jerk/bitch then dont tip them and leave the table.

Dealing deeper into the deck, gathering the cards slower so you can get a better count, making small talk with the players so game progresses slower. If they are asked your average bet by the pitguy,a dealer just might remember your biggest bets, along with your tips,or your smallest bets and lack of tips.

btw, ZG,I recieved that book you recommended.

Dealing deeper, GOOD, slowing game, BAD. Even IF she's dealing deeper, it rarely warrants tipping. zg

I prefer to tip once; at the end of my play. A little more if I've won but still a decent amount if I've lost. Dealers take a lot of crap and a lot of smoke in the face. They deserve it. But tipping constantly during play is definitely not a good idea.

Dealer Tipping

I push the dealer tip into the insurance circle and give the dealer the option to play the tip or drop it into the tip box. This is done for fun and many dealers really seem to appreciate getting to play. My normal tip at a red chip table is 2.00 every cold beer I drink (about every 45 minutes) and a five dollar chip when I color up, if I am happy with the dealer. Newyorkbear is correct that the dealer will help you when you tip, on my last trip to the casino I discovered that I had bought Insurance on a hand that the dealer had blackjack on, without me knowing about it. Please aknowledge that things go on at the red chip tables on a crowded Saturday night that could never be pulled-off in the High-stake area.

If I ever get to the point where I need to stiff dealers in order to boost my BJ earnings,I might just have to get a job.As far as I'm concerned, unless a dealer is hostile, they deserve to be tipped.

This is a topic I thought a lot about over the weekend and wanted to address and who better to ask then the Grifter. I don't play high limit yet, I only play $10-100 and that roughly says you make $16/hr. So I wonder should I tip? Will it actually make any difference whatsoever? For example if the pit boss sees me tip is he/she less likely to kick me out for counting? I've never received any heat so I doubt this is a concern and I doubt they would take that into account if they wanted to kick me out. The casinos here in Alberta are different than Vegas as we cannot make a seperate bet for the dealer. I guess it could be as simple as putting an extra $1 on your stack and saying thats the dealers but I never see anyone do that. The dealer won't give me better penetration if I tip nor will it affect any sort of players club points (since they don't have one). So my question is why should I tip? Just to be nice? But I try to take BJ seriously, and could be accused of being a bit cheap, so I don't like tipping much. I do tip on occasion but try to keep it to less than $2/night ideally maybe only $1 or $0.5. But I would like the Grifter and some other serious player's opinions on this issue. I guess if I was playing high limit I would have have a higher expected profit so then maybe I could afford to tip $1 or 2 per hour. And honestly, the only reason I feel the need to tip is I feel pressure sitting there with all those stupid 50cent pieces, especially if I have made a lot that night.

Sure its nice to tip if you're winning but if you tip too much you're just wasting away all your profits and it will only make your losses that much more expensive, because they sure won't give you back your tips when you start to lose. And though I sound like a bit of a jerk I completely understand how the dealers make their money as I work pt at a casino as a poker and sometimes bj dealer.

Another thing is I very rarely buy any drinks at the casino, they are too expensive (the same price as a regular bar) to buy every time I go and still consider BJ profitable. If I want a drink, and I have only had alcohol once while counting, I usually just go the poker room during a negative count, pretend like I'm going to play and take a free drink from there (pop).

**My responses are imbedded -

**Well $5 per hour is ONE THIRD of your EV!

Will it actually make any difference whatsoever? For example if the pit boss sees me tip is he/she less likely to kick me out for counting?

**Makes no difference.

So my question is why should I tip? Just to be nice? But I try to take BJ seriously, and could be accused of being a bit cheap, so I don't like tipping much. **Tipping $2 for the night buys you NOTHING, so why bother? Dealers are NOT waitresses! They do nothing for you. If you only tip $2, especially if you win, it will creat additional contempt from some dealers.

Sure its nice to tip if you're winning ...

**Bad logic. Tips are a tremendous drain on EV and should be considered only very rarely IF EVER! zg

BJ is not my only source of income so I can certainly tip a little. And anyone who has smoke blown in their face 8 hours a day deserves a little something. I tip waiters and waitresses and I don't consider that as "eating into my winnings" so I don't think it should be any different with dealers.

Again, the question is HOW MUCH (as a percentage of EV)? zg

$10 per session sounds like a lot unless you're playing with black chips all night.

Though it is true being a dealer can really suck at times it is the individuals choice to be a dealer.

And my last statement probably will sound even more negative than my last, but since I am playing to make money (not a living just yet) I will leave tipping for those who are just there to have a good time and for the most part expect to lose their money anyway.

I haven't been able to play a lot recently (only about twice a month). I'll play for about 8 hours in A.C. but sit out for MUCH of it during bad counts. Betting between $10 and $100.

It's the individuals choice to deliver pizzas also but they still drive their car and bring it to my front door. Look, I don't ALWAYS tip, but I like to. It makes me feel good. Yes, I play blackjack to make money and I don't want to give any of it up uselessly, but it makes me happy to tip the guy or gal so I do. It's been an EXTREMELY small percentage of what I've made. I'm not suggesting anyone tip or not tip. Just do what you're comfortable with.
