BJ is a dangerous and deceptive game

My main holdback is that I quite simply do not have the bankroll to finance the betting spreads needed to take full advantage of the skill-set. Why develop it if I can't use it?
Don't play bad games, not even for practice or boredom. zg

LOL.................There's a bit of a difference here. I know the gun is loaded! But I happen to like Russian Roulette.

You guys are bound and determined to humiliate me into Advantage Play. Guess I'll have to pull the cobwebs out and hone up the brain muscle. :flame:

BJ players play. Its what we do.
While one should always play the best game available, sometimes we don't have a huge choice. I live on Long Island, east of NYC.
my choices are-2 1/2 hr drive to AC,where the games suck, same time to Conn where games are better but seating is tough,30 minutes into brooklyn to a russian mob joint where winners have been known to get 'robbed' when leaving the club,or a cruise ship with 6-5 BJ.
Sure,I can not play and wait for my next trip to Vegas, but thats not what we do.Its what sperates us from the jerkoff computer guys who can give N-numbers and
the exact ratio of whatever but never really play the game. Not for real money or in public.

Even a 6:5 1D game is beatable... BUT NOT the ante game, he's got much better things to do with his time and money. Netx I'll be hearing that he plays there AND he enjoys tipping the dealers while he does. zg

You are right. He could spend his time surfing the web for things to post here, and have no-one read, but not everyone enjoys that.
Saving $10 a carton on his cigs equals 40 free hands.

OK, and given that this board is about long-term costs, how does each cig-savings add up in addt'l longterm health costs?

Here's another point we agree on ZG....Smokin' Mother Nature! 6:5 BJ is MUCH better than playing at Oklahoma's game tables. $25 is the maximum you can get on the felt at one time without doubles or splits and even with $25 maximum bets, the house edge is -1% PLUS the real house edge. 6:5 BJ gives the house something like 1.4% advantage over the other table rules....so $25 with a quarter ante is only marginally better than 6:5. Any other $5 incriment downward makes 6:5 a better game.

But they don't sell Pot in Oklahoma over the counter at the smoke shops. Never thought about asking "under the table".

Oh, and I do not normally toke at Oklahoma and have explained it to the dealers who really are hungry young folks. If I'm way ahead like I was night before last, I will leave them my stack of whites and orange ($1 and $.25) ante chips....usually $3 to $5 at the end of my session.

Oh well, next Friday we're heading to KC. Have a free Friday night at AmeriStar. Maybe I can play up there without a guilty conscience <LOL>

Hey Midnite...can I pry you away from the Indian Casinos and talk you into a few tables at AmeriStar? We gotta get that Casino in down at Wellington (on I-35 just south of Wichita). I heard they were having trouble getting the city to go along with the hypothetical venture because the best location was to close to a high school or something like that.

Here's the way I play and have been winning overall my last 10 trips

Since most of us cannot count effectively or dont desire to learn it because of dubious chances of improving our winning percentage, here is what has been working for me:
Flat bet with escalating buy-in. Buy in for 10 units each time. Start at $10 units which is $100 for initial buy in. If you lose, then up it to $15 units x 10 for $150, then if you lose $20 x 10 = $200, then $25 x 10 = $250, then finally $30 units x 10 = $300. Need $1000 total session bankroll. This allows you to play with 50 units total and you can come back from deficits much more quickly than flat betting. What do you THINK?

I think that it doesn't really work... but first, how do you play the hands? We need to know how you play the hands in order to calculate the house edge, or did you already calculate it and if so what is it? zg

I wish that the guy who worked up that software I have that simulates streak betting for under $10, would offer that software to Ken to sell here in the store.

If losing 100.00 then buying in an additional 150.00 a winning system, then I think winning would cost to much. My luck is so bad I would never lose that first 100.00 making it impossible to win at this system.

If I had used that system my last trip, I would have lost the entire $1000. I was playing $5 and $10 tables and had a horrific run of consecutive losing hands. It was depressing. I finally gave up after losing $300. I didn't know a player could lose so many hands in a row! Have you ever died a slow death like that at a $5 table?

Yes. This past Saturday night. 5.5 hours at $5 a hand and lost $225. It wasn't just consecutive hands though. It was a matter of losing the vast majority of all doubles and splits in addition to more than the expected 52% of "normal" hands! It's called a "trainwreck."

The important thing to remember though is the math. I'd had 5 winning trips prior to this one. Sooner or later, it catches up and evens out. I'm still ahead for the past 6 trips, but not by much!

Hey Mike...

Remember me from last year?? I have been so busy doing other things that I haven't been keeping up with everything important. I'm heading to Vegas again the first part of next month for a trade show so I started hitting the old boards again. I had to re-register for this one because I couldn't remember my password.

I know what your saying. I know I could make more $$ playing the higher limits but I don't know if I want to risk that much, that's why they call it gambling. I make enough at the $5- $25 tables to keep me happy and "entertained". It helps to be nice to the pit boss, male or female doesn't matter, just be nice ;).

I'll be in Vegas soon & a trip to KC sometime in May. Maybe you and your wife will be able to get away and we'll see you again this year....

ohhhh, I forgot to say "It's the Rocky Mountain Way"

Hello Vickic! Most certainly will make it a point to get to KC in May. Name the date! In fact, we're driving up there this weekend. I've succumbed to peer pressure an resolved to stay away from Oklahoma this weekend

Just to be straight with the Alzheimer's, didn't we play at Plaza at the same table a couple of times? I'm positive that I think I might remember

I was out there in January (Plaza) and Dan and Queen Sheba and Penny are still dealing there but they have gone under new management and things certainly are not the same. Dealers are not happy with the rules changes and the hotel itself is going downhill....yeah, I know, "How is that possible?" Still, it's one of the best games on Fremont.

Yep, that was me.... the good old Plaza. I'll have to check it out when I'm downtown next month. My mom's birthday is May 24th and lives in MO so I know it will be around that date, probably the 25th for the casino trip. I'll have to let you know when it gets closer.

That will definitely be a trip I'll not forget Vicki! Don't know if you came by the table when I was sitting with these 3 ladies and having a ball. Then came these two 'Punker' gals with piercings, tattoos and painted hair! Foul mouthed and probably pumpped on crack! Anyway one of them got on my case about a play I'd made and in unison, all three of the first ladies I had sat down with, jumpped up and threatened to take the two freaks out back for some black and blue action. All three were in town for a Karate Convention and all three were blackbelts <LOL.>

That's what I'm talkin' about with Blackjack being a dangerous game!

I've marked down May 25.

lol... I missed that one, I would've loved to see that.

I did hear a great BJ strategy the other day to share.

Other than tourne's there is another time when it's a good move to split 10's.

When your sitting at a full table and your buddy needs a chair.

That's enough for tonight, take care and have a good one.
