Boomtown has some of the best blackjack rules any where in the world! Included in the layoffs are the general manager of the casino, I think he is one of the people who backed me off of his blackjack game! I used to love playing at boomtown before they backed me off of the game, because the casino was close to my house, I got good comps, and the dealers are friendly because they go for there own tips! In addition to layoffs they cut many workers hours way back!

They're missing the picture

It's too bad about Boomtown. They definitely had a good thing going there, but didn't know how to handle a few simple problems they faced in the last couple of years. I sure hope that one of their spys are reading this thread.
About two years or so ago the hospitality side of their operatons started going into the tank, room accomodations and services went to hell by cutting their hotel staff, thereby losing the "captive" crowd they depended on. Then starting last year they switched mgmt. in the Cantina Coffee Shop and the results were awful. The food was so bad that even resorting to a plain burger there just didn't cut it. All this resulted in the locals becoming disenchanted as well as the other low rollers from the Bay Area thus the volume in the pits suffered and here we are with 10 BJ tables left in the pit. Someone from Boomtown management needs to get hold of some of us here on the forum to turn things around for them before it gets too late.Isn't that ironic.

I never lament the closing or scaling down of a casino property. There's so many to choose from. If they're scaling down or losing money its generally because they've made changes that have made things worse for their players - so when the players avoid them, its understandable.

Boomtown becomes bust town. Whatever. there's plenty of good blackjack games still left in this world.

And sorry, I feel no sadness for those casino workers who face the short straw of unemployment either. If they're morally bankrupt enough to work for the overgrown palaces of chance that steal from more people than they help, then they should reap the consequences of that bankruptcy.

Ok, I play in casinos - so that might seem like an oxymoron. But I'm there to act as robin hood: take from the rich, give to the poor. From their side the casinos work generally in the opposite direction.

Why support them and help them get back on their feet? Let them bust. give your action to a casino that looks after you as a player.

Judgmental much?

Giving it to yourself doesn't count, even if you are poor.

Yes, I was judging there, perhaps unfairly. Just quoting my personal viewpoint.

True, I give some of my winnings to myself. But I also give around 30% of my net winnings each year to charities (verifiable).

lol have to wonder how you stoop so low as to enter one. did you know some casino's do give to the poor and some of their proceeds go to needed public works rather than more taxes? probably you should try and get to know some of the employee's of the joints you frequent. might be pleasantly suprised.
when's the last time you saw anyone forced into one of these joints?

The one time I was there, I was the only non-trucker.

How the heck to you lose a truck stop? Did it wander off? Did trucks stop buying gas?

I have to stoop really low... not. I enjoy entering casinos but do so for one reason only: to take their money home. I'm not there to pay for the lightbulbs - let the tourists and fools do that.

I am aware that casinos do some public work - but generally they do the minimum mandated by law. Casinos make profits for themselves as a rule. Those that benefit the state in a big way are probably owned by them...

I have met and become friendly with a large number of casino staff in my time - the people themselves are generally fine and dandy. But there is a set who are happy to see you lose - and are the soul-sucking deadpans I talked about in earlier posts.

I've not seen anyone forced into a casino in my life. :)

i just don't really believe you aren't sympathetic for those that lose their jobs maybe just see it as some sort of an irony perhaps when measured against the complimentary shoddy treatment an honest AP is likely to recieve lol.

The new street configuration is probably costing Boomtown business, too. Now the ONLY way to get into the south parking lot, which was the most convenient parking, is from the freeway offramp from Reno. Anyone coming from California is forced to park in the north lot. It's also very difficult to figure out how to get into the gas station. It appears to be getting little business. What a mind-numbingly idiotic move.

Boomtown actually IS in Reno city limits. Reno has annexed land all the way to the California border. The little community of Verdi is now a donut-hole surrounded by Reno.
