Breakeven game?

#1
Hi,

Been reading the forum for a while. You guys know your stuff.

I live in Norway where there are no blackjack opportunities. However, there is a ferry which crosses to Sweden where there is a table with pretty good rules albeit horrible penetration. I have been flat betting basic strategy well aware that I am playing a losing game, but I really enjoy playing!

The rules are S17, DAS, double anything, RSA, no late surrender.
Minimum bet is 100 NOK (10,76$). Call it 11 $?
Penetration is 3/6.

If i were to throw Hi-Lo into the mix and vary my bets, what sort of bankroll would I need in order to breakeven with a low ROR if possible? What spread are we talking here? As far as I can understand the game is not a realistic beatable game due to the poor penetration unless I have a huge bankroll. Perhaps I can have some "free" fun with a smaller bankroll? I "save" about 1000 NOK on cigarettes and booze everytime I take the ferry. Free tickets.

I might just be better off sticking with basic strategy if variance is too great. I'll appreciate any replies.

Thanks guys!

125 spread as in 125 times the minimum bet? Or more like 10 $ - 125 $?
I really appreciate the reply. Thanks! You guys must be sick of noobs coming here and asking the basics!

Sorry, how about giving up the cigarettes, booze, and gambling. Then you already won.

Which books should I buy to help me calculate risk of ruin? Perhaps I should just buy cvcx, but I have no ambition to pursue a career in advantage play. I'm intrigued by the subject though.

With the rules mentioned, is it reasonable to assume I will be playing with about a 0.5% advantage at a true 2?
((1 - (W - L)) / (1 + (W - L)))U
Say I only were to play a true 2, is this formula enough to calculate ROR? Probably not.
And a true 2 is pretty rare with 50% pen right? The ferry table is usually empty, all the asians play the Ultimate hold'em game. Backcounting won't really be feasible.

Thanks again, lots of questions here. Point me in the right direction as to which books I might buy and I might be able to answer them for myself. Still appreciate any feedback!

BJA3 has a 39-page chapter on the subject, surely the most comprehensive coverage in print. The calculators provided by Norm at blackjacktheforum.com provide answers for all possible scenarios: goals, no goals, time constraints, no time constraints, etc.

I got the book delivered Saturday and was amazed with how much information it has. I don’t mean any offense to the Author lol, I just didn’t expect a book that thorough.

When a casino can`t back you of, they usually half shoe you, because it makes a game not worth playing.
I would go somewhere else where you can have a winning game or play table min.
The swings of a winning game are already crazy. i can’t imagine how i`d feel having those on a 'maybe break even' game
