Comp City's value is in it's description of how the comp system operates, in that regard things have not changed a bit. What has changed are the various theoretical profit percentages that casinos assume about typical blackjack players. It used to be 2%+ but over the last 10 years that figure is now more like 1.25%. What has also changed is the percentage of your profit that the casino is willing to rebate. It used to be 40% of your theoretical profit or 10% of your actual loss (if you lost at least $10,000) for extra comps or airfare. Now at most places it's more like 30% of your theoretical vs 5% of your actual loss for airfare or extra comps. Casinos are also jacking players around on the min loss required for airfare reimbursement or extra comps beyond what their theoretical would qualify them for. Some it's still $10K, some now $20K, and some hosts just quote various amounts 2x higher than whatever you lost just to get you to quit asking.
Otherwise, the advice of playing at slow tables with a higher than normal avg bet until you are sure you have been rated and then sandbagging to a lower bet whenever you have a chance is still effective (provided RFID type chips aren't in use).
Rather than playing for theoretical the most effective comp strategy (if you have the bankroll) is to play to generate a big swings of say +10K or -10K. If you win big quit and take your winnings and play at the next casino. If you lose big hit them up for everything you can including airfare reimbursements.
Harrah's and many companies give virtually no comps to table game players (i.e., points you have direct control over) but you do accrue pretty serious amounts of discretionary comps that hosts control (even at Harrah's) and can get some pretty good mail.
