Conditions in newly re-opened Vegas

On another forum "someone" seemed to be looking for a 'trip report' from me concerning conditions in newly re-opened Vegas. So here it is. It was HOT in Vegas today. 108 degree. I mean, we see worse all the time. Maybe it just seemed brutal being the first day back. Really sucks that we wasted the best part of the year stuck indoors and now are "released" back into the 108 degree heat. :mad: Is that what you were looking for 21forme? :p

I visited 6 casinos. Played blackjack at 4. 3 are in my regular BJ rotation. 1, I went just to pick up some free play as they have been unplayable for BJ for me for several years and low and behold, a decent, playable game. o_O I though there may be some of this going on. After I check all my regular rotation games, I will have to do a quick survey of game that have been out of my rotation for a while. We'll see how it all shakes out. ;)

I hope Zee can find this thread :)

A few questions:
When you say "unplayable," is that because it's a shitty game or you are too well known to play there?
Speaking of which, I'm sure by now you've developed the problem of being too well-known at some places. Will you now go back, all masked up?
Are they checking IDs on the way in? How about temperatures?

Unplayable for me is because of conditions. As you know almost all backoffs are temporary, by my thinking. ;) But with a small type casino can be more of a problems, so I have a couple small places that I can't play at....but that is it. I am talking really small places. It's not worth it to attempt to play masked up. I can make better use of my time right now.

All casinos checked temperature at the door. I think that is a requirement. There also was a temperature check that you walked through right in the middle of Fremont street. That seemed odd. No one checked ID, but the one station property I visited, required you to stand on a marked spot, remove any mask, and glasses, and took a picture of everyone, while they checked temperature. THAT could be problematic, if tied to facial recognition. I mean I guess they could have been checking that anyway prior, but this is having everyone stand still, look into the camera for a good picture. I wasn't crazy about that. Hopefully just temporary.

One thing I didn't notice was all this frequent cleaning that was supposed to be going to happen. I played a VP machine for about 90 minutes at one downtown casinos, and no one came by to clean any machine, nor did I see anyone doing that the whole time I was there. Kind of thought they would be on top of that for the first day or two anyway. :rolleyes:

I also didn't notice any games where the player touches the cards at the locations I visited. All games were dealt face up. I know they were discussing making this mandatory at the Gaming Commission meeting last week that dealt with re-opening, but am not sure if they actually made it mandatory or some sort of recommendation. I didn't watch the whole meeting.

Doing away with players touching cards wouldn't have a great effect in Vegas. there would just be more face up dealt doubledeck, like El Cortez does. But in places like Reno and Wendover, boy it would really change games there. (and for those that play those places. ;)).

Yes, I bet most casinos will change away from any face down dealing any longer. Bummer. I prefer face down, so that it isn't so obvious to everyone when I "hit a hand I shouldn't", or use a little more time while thinking about something, etc.
Oh well, I guess we will have to see what changes come.
And yikes...I don't love the stand on the spot while we take your picture scenario either! Thanks for your info KewlJ.

Clearly, they don't care if they kill people. That's more than clear by their not requiring that everyone in the casino wear a mask. Callous disregard for life. Sickening, greedy, stupid assholes.

I'm happy businesses are finally opening back up. You should know that casinos exist to make money, nothing else.
What I have read...Clark County only reports a couple of hundred deaths from the virus, mostly in nursing homes 70+ with other serious health conditions.
If you demand people wear a mask everywhere you go, then don't go into their casino, or just stay at home. Problem solved.

Thanks KJ for your good update on Vegas. I know a lot of folks appreciate it.

In Wendover, they are dealing the game face up with only 3 players to the table. Don't have to worry about crowded tables anymore.

That's a naive, foolish answer. How do you think the virus spread in the first place? Yes, I would stay out of their casinos. But the assholes who go inside without a mask and spread the virus among themselves now go out into the population and further spread it. Or, do I have to explain to you how this works??

DonI know how to solve this problem of people not wearing masks. You tell Security that all the people playing
With no masks on black jack are counters, if the play slot machines you report that you see them putting a device and so on. The casino will remove them or you will get a good laugh.

Just curious, what were the table limits like on strip vs. downtown vs. locals? Did they hike minimums, or lower them?
