Do your Dad a favor and buy him the books that I referenced above.
I have read Scoby's book, Wongs book, and the Mad Professors.

Just my opinion but, Scoby's will make nice kindling if I can get it to light up or someone else wants to buy it, Wongs book I sold, and the MP Bible I have placed in my library of BJ books. MP's Bible is one I would hold on to.

I got out my very rusty counting skills out the other day and was amazed on how bad i was. Luckily, i am pretty good on the rest of the stuff. Dont you think counting is a bit like playing Snap? ;)

Harry,

If you are here to learn I strongly advise you to keep the profanity out of your posts.

"Scoblete" and "Loveman" are examples of words certain to offend some of us.
I do my thing, and you do yours. I'll stay with speeding counting. I am practiive it right now, and it's working for me.If you want to eye ball every card coming out of the shoe.that's fine with me. I don't need to do that.I can say hi to all the beautiful sexy ladies walking by, and don't worry about losing the count. I wait until all hands are played, and than add up all small cards and subtract them by number of players, including the dealer. I am a conservative better,so therefore the casino will not catch on to me. Can you look at sexy beautiful sexy ladies walking by in the casino and keep the count at the same time, espectially one with big boos?

Are you referring to counting the cards, or counting the ladies? In any event, yes I do a full count and still enjoy the scenery.

Yes I can keep a Level Two Count with side counts of Aces and Sevens while keeping up as non-stop conversation.

But, if Speed Counting is all that you are capable of, it is better than nothing; but not by much.

No, I don't flat bet all the time. I am learning card counting so that I would know if the shoe has lots of 10's and aces. I have dvd by Frank Scoblete. I use it to practive both counting systems. On the dvd they hire a dealer. As the cards were put on the table I would count as they came out of the shoe. I need to be fast. I look at the ones that are cancel out, first like 10-2. The slow dealers are the ones I like. Never play blackjack with a triland dealer, you'r never going to win. They are too much for the casino. Back in 1981 I went to LV.I knew nothing about BS.I played backjack with a Triland dealer. She cut the 4 decks with the yellow card down the middle. This dealer would not give me the yellow card to cut the the decks. There were lots of cards unplayed when she reach the yellow card. I learn that when dealer places the cut card down the middle, leave the table. she may have thought she was doing her stinking job.

What is a "Triland" dealer? Did you mean a Thai dealer?

Never timed it, but then again I've never had a dealer/game I couldn't keep up with. Having said that... Accuracy is way more important than speed... you can do lots of thing to control the speed if needed.

I had been practicing with a sindle deck a lot the past week or two (because of this thread, I think  ). When practicing with a deck, I typically count 1 card at a time. However when I am at the casino, I usually use the "2 card cancel" method.

Today at the casino, I wasn't counting as well as usual at first. Maybe my "practice" had been doing more harm than good!

Use that approach with the deck practice too -
hold deck face-up and pull two cards at a time. zg

I fail to see why counting speed is a big deal. A player can always take his time to make a decision. When I lose, it is never my counting speed. It is always the hard-to-avoid variance.

I have been wonging out at TC = -1 and table hopping like crazy. Yet, I lost at most of the tables this weekend. I have no one to blame but the damn variance.

Careful with that kind of talk - this sub-forum could be next on the chopping block!

I had this Asian dealer who was awesome! Cut only 1 deck (out of 8) and dealt faster than the Flash! Ignorant stereotyping is uncalled for! :whip:

There's no room for prejudice in a game of probabilities. The advantage player masters probability. The gambler wallows in prejudged notions.

Stereotyping people based upon ethnicity is obviously foolish. No discussion warranted.

However, there are certain assumptions that one can make re: dealers.

Dealers of Asian extraction (especially if female) do, indeed, "tend to":
  • Give average to worse penetration.
  • Deal at average speed or slower.
  • Make less errors in favor of the players.

These are only tendencies and no more than that.

These are not prejudicial / biased / racist conclusions.

They are based on two decades of observations.

There are sound sociological reasons for these tendencies.
