I guess Niagra Falls wouldn't be too ridiculous of a drive. Plus, I here there's some sort of other attraction there.
It's about 9 hours to AC from Erie, unless you drive very very fast...It has to be at least six hours one way to AC. I'm going to guesstimate its at least an hour and a half to Buffalo,three hours to Turning Stone.You are in the middle of no where.

Getting across the border can be a real hassle,especially on weekends.The American Falls are much nicer than the Canadian ones,but you must cross over to see them.
Be aware that not all car insurance is valid in Canada,and you may need a special waiver. Same thing goes for rental cars.
I still think you should just enjoy the beach.
