First time splitting 10's

So some friends and I took a trip weekend trip down to our closest casinos. I'd been getting somewhat hammered at a double deck that while has good rules has pretty poor penetration but we thought we'd play there for a while. After a couple hours of not much happening and being down about 20 units the count went astronomical and i had two 10's to a dealer 6. I've been nervous about splitting them from all i've read and heard about heat etc but we weren't planning on playing at this place anymore and I had 10 units out there and i wanted to get my 20 back so i said what the heck. The dealer kept saying are you sure trying to get me not to. I split, got another 10 and split again. Then three aces come out in a row for three 21's. I jumped out of my chair, the dealer said get a load of this to the next table and they all walked over to see. I immediately cashed out and left. By far the most thrilling moment of the trip.

I do appreciate all the information on this board. I feel each time i've gone to the casino's i've been better than the previous time due to what i've read. Not necessarilly counting any better but more observant of whats going on besides at the table and taking notes of when someone is watching and when its time to bail. Another point on the trip I was killing this one table and was playing unrated as I had been stared at pretty hard the last trip. I noticed 2 pit crew talking and then when they saw me notice they turned their backs. I decided it was time to leave and cashed out. We were still in the casino and as we walked by the tables the dealer I had been joking with and playing with told me "you should really go now" with a wink and a smile.

Wow! Nice hand. The odds of this happening(including XX) were probably well over 1n100,000

At the place I regular, on my first trip I mentioned to a kindly dealer how I liked to play alone. But it's a shoe game (and a great one), so that is rare. After several bone-headed ploppy plays, I told her, "I'm going to have to start splitting 10s to get play alone."

The chatty-kathy remembers this (little turnover at this store). She makes sure on every trip to pass this along to players, other dealers, and even pit crew.

I of course super-rarely ever split 10s because of the count and situation so rarely calls for it. But if I ever NEED to split 10s I feel like I've got the perfect cover established as long as I'm not already alone at the table.

Good play splitting the tens, but don't attract attention to it by calling people over.
Yeah, agreed. The dealer was the one who actually mentioned it to the other table which is just another reason to get out of there right away when people came over. I probably shouldn't have jumped out of my chair as I doubt that helped. I just kind of got over excited. Next time i'll make sure to play it off better!

First time not splitting tens

It just happened. Normally I strictly stick to true count to guide my play, never worrying about cover. But I questioned myself after saving the table by double soft 18 against 2 and soft 19 against 6. I was thinking can I be that lucky again?

True count was +8. I have max bet on 2 hands. Both received two tens and dealer up card is six. I should have split but I didn't. So dealer made it to 21 (6,4,5,6). Everybody lost.

The correct move would be to split the tens. You'd have a 15 and 16.
