Floating Advantage Concept

Several players have mentioned this concept to me over recent months. I finally took a good look at the ‘Floating Advantage’ chapter in Schlesinger’s Blackjack Attack.

So it seems that in theory a true count at a deeper penetration is better than the same true count at a not-so-deep level. However the additional advantage that can actually be gained by betting more at the deeper penetration level is minimal i.e. it adds 1-2% to the player’s win rate – e.g. increase from 2 units to 2.04 units per hour.

So I am thinking that I should not bother trying to adjust my game to incorporate the floating advantage theory?

Do others agree?

Yes, I agree. The concept of floating advantage is interesting, but shouldn't affect your play at all.

I completely agree with your conclusion matt. I too, recently went back and re-read that chapter after discussion on the board and pretty much came to the same conclusion.

I looked at it the other way. Perhaps the lower advantage in the first half of a shoe is usable. This could be good for cover if you play much larger stakes. Could probably be used to mess up computer evaluation.
I don't think it is useful for most players. I found the losses too high to warrant it.

Best thing you can do is toss a white onto your stack of greens. Heck, even use it for cover, claiming that $76 (or whatever) is a "lucky bet" for you near the end of a shoe.
