I'm starting to wonder what they're up to at MGM. All the felts were changed on April 28th at Foxwoods. That's when MGM personnel started saying that they were waiting for their new felts. I don't know anything about the felt business, but I would expect a casino with the clout of FW/MGM could get their hands on some if they really wanted to. This very well could be another one of their experiments.

Coincidentally Foxwoods snagged a guy named Frank Leone from Taj Mahal and made him Vice President of Table Games a week before the change.

Nice coincidence, conditions seem to be improving at Taj!

A dealer at MGM once told me the practices of their casino were intended to keep the "chinks" away. Yes, he actually said "chinks." It is clear that their marketing is intended for the other races, including a faux-Asian nightclub called Shrine that would be more likely to offend than entice a practitioner of Asian religion. I think FW proper is fully concentrating on the Chinatown bus crowd that can't just get up and go to Mohegan or Mt. Airy and is slow to change habits.

When they first opened MGM they had a few H17 tables and they were very unpopular, and I know that the management of MGM isn't that closely related to that of Foxwoods. I'm guessing MGM will remain S17.

The only justification for this would be that some of their non- ... uh ... Asian clientele don't want to play with Asians.

Asian customers seem reasonably profitable for the casino. Maybe their basic strategy skills are slightly stronger, but they bring at least as much voodoo to the table. Their hourly loss rate may be less than the white guy hitting his soft 17, but they're willing to put in the longer hours necessary to piss the bankroll away.

That's not my observation at FW. About half the Asian BJ players are female and they play absolutely horribly, especially with surrender, and they all play the sidebets. The Occidental BJ players are mostly male and play something close to BS, maybe giving up 1% in a S17 game. New Englanders are fairly well educated and most of them have at least heard of Basic Strategy, even if they don't always apply it or understand its significance. But the Chinese players are mostly older immigrants living in Chinatowns and don't appear to be using much more than superstitions.

At risk of offending people, that's not true.

Asian Gamblers aren't smart gamblers. That's why most of them play Baccarat. Asian Gamblers are superstitious, non-strategic and completely obsessed with randomness ("fortune" in their terms) and believing their wins and losses are determined by the interior decorating.

They often make the dumb side-bets and rarely (in my experience) stick to good strategy.

Yes, there are exceptions, obviously.

But yeah, mostly, casinos love Asian gamblers because they're ploppies that bet big.

I guess it depends. If you're an old Asian guy who loves to scream "MONKEY", then yes, it's great cover. If you're young, Asian-American, and educated, I'd argue that you're just as likely to be an AP as anyone else (especially considering the stereotype for being a CC is an MIT kid).

That being said, I'd give anything to be an old black lady in a casino.

Amen to that. My last trip to FW featured an old Asian lady yelling "You crazy, you stupid" at me as I was splitting 9's on a 3. I then continued to watch as the same old geezer lost about $3K on a $25 table in about a half hour making all kinds of stupid plays. Then you have her throwing green on the "Match the Dealer" spot all the while pointing out hands that would have won the "Match" if they were playing it. I'm like, "Thanks grandma, for pointing out my non-play of a 4-1 winner that in truth is probably more like 20-1 or something. I think they just announced your bus..." I'd love to know where these people get their money.

Come on man, don't split your 9's in front of an old asian lady, they hate that! 18's a good hand!

They tend to own small businesses, and don't go out of their way to properly pay taxes.

Think its better to be a young black male rather than older black lady or man, as they tend to also bet crazily.

They call that a transvestite. I've seen plenty of them at tables in AC. It is actually not the worst cover as long as you're not the only transvestite in town, so I wouldn't recommend it outside of AC or LV. Reason it's cover is that a transvestite has politically-correct and also usually legally-protected status, so they might be afraid of a lawsuit if they toss you out. Blacks also have protected status but they can just get their black security guards and PC's to come back you off so it doesn't look like Jim Crow. They probably don't have any security guards in drag!

Biggest problem with drag is picking which restroom to use! Either choice can give them a reason to eject you. Make sure you know where all the single-occupant facilities are before dressing up and stepping out.
