What are some good places to play in vegas with low table minimums like $5 and what rules are these games? Does station still have $5 minimum double deck as reported in this forum 5 years ago?

Not much left. But can someone who has to play $5 tables even afford to travel to Las Vegas? Why would they want to? More and better tiny-stakes games exist elsewhere.

Perhaps they are going to vegas for some other reason but also want to play while they are there. Or any $10 games, and if so what rule set will you find for them?

Surely there must be something downtown? Or are all the playable games now $25 min for the most part?

I guess the standard vegas rule set is something like DAS, DA2 resplit 4 times except aces? Are most games H17 now? How prevalent is surrender?

I think part of the issue here is terminology. The original post reference "good places to play at $5 minimums" which I assume meant 'good conditions'. LVBear with just a hint of a cranky attitude :p responded "there is not much left" (at those limits). I see this type of response from the long time players all the time as it is quite apparent there is some frustration with current conditions as compared to conditions they used to have available years ago.

The second term that complicates things a bit is "playable". Many of these "long time players" don't accept the mediocre conditions currently available as "playable". But to someone like me, having begun my career at the time conditions were worsening (and even worse in my case, began playing AC for 5 years before moving to Vegas) these mediocre conditions are all I have ever known and "playable" by my standards. o_O

Last year my younger brother began his blackjack career. I started him out playing at the red chip level playing $5 & $10 games, which he played for all of 2015. This year we moved him up to light green to black. So last year when he was playing $5 & 10 games, I had him playing a small rotation of games that were playable by my standard. Some of the games in that rotation were Downtown: El cortez (of course), the D, Golden Nugget at times downtown Grand. Strip or just off strip: Palms, Silver Seven, Hooters, Tropicana, Westgate. Off strip Local places: Eastside Cannery, Longhorn, Sam's town (weekend nights), Joker's Wild (Henderson), Fiesta-Henderson, sunset station, Green Valley Ranch, Red Rock, Palace Station (sweaty), Silverton, M resort, and South Point (very sweaty). I am sure I am forgetting some but these locations at times have what I considered playable low limit $5 games.

As for El Cortez. Everyone always says "good for low limit", but I have been playing EC regularly at the green to light black level, several times a week, since I moved to Vegas 7 years ago. Every year EC has been in my top 5 casinos as far a yearly results. Short sessions are a must, but they add up.

that's perfect thank you for the list KewlJ. Do these games all have a similar rule set? Is it

H17, DAS, DA2 no resplit aces no surrender? Or are there variations in rule sets between these joints?

Pretty much standard rules mentioned. Just a couple do have surrender.

The variables are penetration, which often varies by dealer and how crowded it is. South Point for example offers pretty crappy penetration most of the time. Penetration that even by my standards makes the game unplayable. But during crowded times, penetration improves.

That brings us to the second variable crowded tables. Some of these places, I consider playable, when you can get heads up or in the case of 6 deck games, one or two other players. But during crowded times, with full tables, especially with side bets, which many lower limit tables have, the game slows to the point that it's "difficult" at best.

Downtown and locals casinos are going to be the places for $5 games. Downtown games aren't as good, but they're next door to each other. Locals places tend to have better games, but you have to drive.

4 Queens, Binions, Fremont hotel Las Vegas, Treasure Island, Station casinos, Plaza casino is a good one, El Cortez (before you et backed off) NYNY has a 10 dollar 8 deck shoe game with good pen last time I checked (About half a deck cut off but only 1 game) Basically all of the places down town.
Edit: I forgot Hooters and The Golden Nugget.

Played blackjack in Vegas for the first time. I've been in Vegas numerous times but had never played a single hand of blackjack there in the past. I've played in Reno, but never Vegas. Was almost looking forward to getting a 16 vs a dealer 10 to utilize surrender for the first time (I ended up surrendering 10 times alone in 2.5 hours yesterday). I used surrender twice in a double deck game on Sunday but when I tried it on Monday I was told it wasn't allowed; that the dealer on Sunday was mistaken to have allowed it. There was a few times I surrendered where someone else at the table said "wow, I didn't know they offered it here", and they ended up utilizing it. Saw one guy betting $1,000 a hand and he clearly wasn't counting, but a couple of favorable shoes and he colored out for $9k. Lots of drunks at the tables for St. Patrick's day weekend.

While I agree with your post for the most part, how can you name Binions? When they do NOT offer any 3-2 BJ; only 6-5, especially for a low limit player? Or were you just enamored with the dancing dealers? LOL
