Today I would like to ask a question about betting spreads.

Which would bring more EV and which would be better for heat?

5-95

or

25-125

Don't we need more information first? :confused: You are telling him to play DD, but the poster made no mention of any info on the games he is playing, at least in this post. In Previous post he stated he was playing 6 and 8 deck games and a 1-5 spread play all probably wont cut it. (ya know....trash games...lol)

Also for the poster to ask which would drawl more heat is kind of crazy. There is no standard answer for that. It differs by casino. I have played in places that yell check play when you bet green. :eek:

Both will have similar EVs depending on style of play and game conditions. Both of the top bets of 95 and 125 are not very applicable in the real world. The dealer will break down the bets to pay them off with odd chips and this can draw pit attention and slow the game down.

In general with the 125 bet you will draw checks play and with the 95 will sometimes get a checks play call if the dealer just guesses at the amount.

play 5 or 10 to 80 at small limit tables
or
25 to 150 at bigger limit tables

The $95 top is an attention getter because you are flying just below radar, and it is obvious after a few of those bets.. The $25 to $150 would be on a good DD and much bigger action would be seen and no checks play would be called on table min. I always keep my bets even.

this is a bunch of nonsense! If the policy is to call out 'checks play' at $100, you are not going to avoid such by betting $95. :laugh: The dealer has to make a judgement call in a fraction of a second. ur $95 looks like $100, so he/she calls it out to be safe (better safe that sorry) Betting $95 or 90 won't avoid this scutiny. It may actually create more. But for sure it will slow the game down, which can also translate into more scrutiny, and means less hands per hour, which equals less winnings per hour. If ya want to stay under the $100 radar, you better bet $75 or $80 tops. anything else is counter-productive.

Also 'bet spread' at levels below $200 is irrelevant except at the 'cheapest' of joints. Up until about $200, what really matters is your max bet. a $10- $200 spread (1-20), draws no more heat than a $25-$200 spread (1-8). They are only concerned about the 200 part. :laugh:
 
i disagree with that last part kj..i've gotten backed off spreading 10-200. and no heat from the pb, it came from the eye

I agree with you muppet, the eye makes the calls nearly 100% of the time.

Today I was crushing a great DD, my HI-LO-LO count was giving me BJ after BJ with the big bets out, the phone rang, the two pit bosses had a conversation and it was very apparent I was in trouble. I had to back down my game performance to cool the situation,,,,again not the PB's or dealer, it was the eye that brought the heat.

Well now, you have mentioned your HI-LO-LO count several times over the past few weeks, and I'm sure peaked the interest of more than just myself. Care to give any details? If not specifics, at least a hint of how the extra Lo part works? or are you just being a tease? :laugh:

I believe HiLoLo is HiLo with a side count of aces to improve PC
 
I've noticed in Vegas that most places pay attention to max bet more than spread. Got away with spreading 10-75 in single deck, but 25-150 in double deck got plenty of heat.

Based on the "experts" I have read, the eye only gets that involved if the pit is suspicious and calls up to alert them of your play. I guess it works both ways.

Really depends on the casino. Many places, the eye is in charge of protecting games. Pit is just there for accounting.

Based on knowing several eyes personally, the eye will seldom get involved in low limit games unless alerted by the pit. They will spend a lot of time surveilling high limit games without pit involvement. Occasionally they might surveil a low limit game if things are slow and all their other duties are caught up, but in these days of layoffs and skeleton crews, I doubt you have much worry about this.

PS--They may be surveilling a dealer suspected of copping chips, or they may break in a new eye on a low limit game, so there are times when you could just be unlucky and get caught. lol
