Variance increases because there is now more $$ on the table, and it decreases because different hands in the same game have a correlation of result of about 50%(according to some post i came across). In finance, any correlation of smaller than 100% can reduce risk, and that's used to diversify a portfolio.

Not sure if you're joking here, but $13.75 with typical blackjack variance is no where near as good as $13.55 per hour guaranteed at your job. Remember, all good things must come to an end.
Try to get in as many hands as you can w/o making mistakes. And How are you calculating your TC? or are ya?
And what happens if you were to leave on a negative count? How long does it take the machine to start from the top again. Can you simply switch to another machine? This is important.

I have been lurking here for a little while. Have really enjoyed learning what counting is all about, though for me it has been largely academic due to the fact that I live in Sydney with its one, csm-riddled casino.
I had a look at one of the machines mentioned in this thread. One of the good things is that it displays exactly how many cards have been dealt. With none of the usual live-game distractions and no desk estimation fuzziness to worry about, it might be an appropriate situation for something like Hi-Opt II?
I would be very appreciative if anyone could run a sim for me on that, with Ace SC and a full array of indices.

Could you be more specific? Even though it displays the exact cards, you will still need a pre-dtermined method of calculating your TC. How? depends on you, and what type of accuracy your striving for.Ace of Oz said:

helllo, glad to see an Aussie fellow here, unfortunately i dont have a sim to help you out on that. But i can tell you my experience on the machine. As it is a 3 player machine, I once played with an aussie guy and a chinese lady, because i'm not alone at the machine so i thought i'd wong in/out at TC +1.Ace of Oz said:

To keep things practical, how about just rounding to the nearest half-deck remaining for TC calculation... ie. divide RC by 2, 2.5, 3, or 4.
And nearest 1/4D for ace density adjustment (for betting purposes).
But I'm certainly interested in hearing any opinions on the best way to attack this game.

It did cross my mind as to whether wonging would be an option, and my suspicion was that the kind of people who play these machines wouldn't be very tolerant of it. So your experience obviously confirms that. The good thing is that I don't think it's all that important given that bets can be radically re-sized every hand.

I too have had a look at these machines and the ones around my area don't show any information on the number of cards that have been dealt. What it does show is the number of cards being dealt in that particular round. Just thought you might want to make sure, because that could really screw you up.
From my point of view, the terrible penetration makes it difficult to get any good results from. If you are very patient, then you can make some money, but unfortunately the opportunities where TC reaches +4 or above are very rare.
Also, wonging in and out is totally frowned upon (by other players). I suppose you can still do whatever you want, but it can make for some uncomfortable playing conditions.
I thought about playing more than one slot on the machine, but the club rules don't allow it! Now, if you went as a team of 4, that could work. Let me know if anyone in Sydney is up for giving that a go.

Thanks for that information. There must be different models. The ones I looked at definitely display a cumulative total. They even expressly state it as "dealt cards 'X'/208". I know they include every dealt card because I watched a couple of full rounds until the shuffle point. Both times the tally kept rising, card by card, during every hand until it went over 104, at which point the re-shuffle occurred.serious said:

BC may well be the emperor here. Wonder how that would go with Wong Halves? (Personally prefer a lvl 3 count to lvl 2 + sidecount anyway.)
