No, seriously, I do tip more often than not.
I usually tip $1 or $2 at a time, even when playing green to low black. If I'm playing a bigger game, I'll tip in red chips. I try to keep it under control, and worst case in a mediocre game I may tip away up to 20% of my theoretical win rate, usually much less.
Tipping a relatively small amount can cut both ways. You can look even cheaper than someone who stiffs the dealer who may be seen as someone who doesn't know to tip. However, I do think tipping can improve longevity if you're playing at a place often enough to be recognized there.
I try to get maximum advertising value out of my tips, by placing them when the pit is around, and also trying to time them for dealer changes so both dealers see the tip.
