KO questions for a newbie

Hey guys,

im sorta new to blackjack counting so i thought that i would start out with an easy system to get my feet wet: the KO Rookie

First of all, im a little confused. I dont quite understand how using the unbalanced system of KO eliminates the need to convert to a true count.

Also, in a six deck game, KO strategy says to begin with an IRC of -20 and to begin raising your bet at a count of -4. However, since KO uses an unbalanced counting method, the final count for any shoe will always be +4 (if you use the corresponding IRC for the # of decks). Isnt the point at which the player has the first advantage then always at a count of +4? If you raise your bet at -4 as KO suggests, isnt there going to be predominately more low cards left in the shoe leaving the player at a major disadvantage? or maybe im missing something? someone please explain.

KO is correct. Follow it. As for why KO calls for what it does, I suggest you go back and re-read the explanation in the book. It's explained better than I can. Luckily, newcomers can now go to chat on Tuesday nights at the designated time for ICNTs( our moderator) lessons.

Ive heard people tell me that it works, but i want to understand for myself why it works. I have read "Knock Out Blackjack" by Olaf Vancura and Ken Fuchs; however, nowhere in the book do they go into the logic of why using an unbalanced system does not require a true count conversion. They also make no reference as to how their "key count" figures are derived.
