The BJHOF will have 21 people. The 21 people to be added to the BJHOF were selected back in 2001 before the first "vote." The vote, when there is one, is only to decide the order in which they are added.
There are reasons that this can't be true.

I detect a feud behind this statement.

Huh? This is how it was explained at the start. What do you mean "feud?" I have no feud with Max. I said nice things about him in a recent post.

Okay, that answers that question, as to his relative qualification.
And a former counter-catcher to boot.

Who next, Howard Grossman?

They left out Darryl (2009)!
I didn't know! My first student!

DP is mistaken, however - it was NOT HO1 - it was the RAPM >
2-6 +1 v. 9-10 -1 w/ Ace sidecount. zg
RWM: Where did you get the Hi-Opt I?
Darryl: That came from a guy I worked with in the boiler room.

Last I heard, people scheduled to be added, albeit they could change their minds:

Bill Erb
Eleanore Dumont
Jess Marcum
Allan Wilson
Ian Andersen

The nominee list isn't static. Or so I hear.
Nearly so. Daryl was a late addition. Dumont was added earlier. One name was dropped after too many jokes. The original intent was that the original 21 would be added over ten or so years. The method of "voting" isn't at all "static.":)

New nominees are added every year and old ones that didn't get voted in get dropped. There is a vote every year to induct new members.

The "vote" is a flexible sort of thing. There was a vote last year. There was NOT the year before -- the FH were appointed. There were the two years before that. The previous year, there was an attempt to block some people from voting. The vote is supposed to be people at the Ball. But, Max also sends out ballots sometimes to people that send their regrets. The first vote was called "public" and advertised. In fact, all public votes were summarized and only counted as one vote. Which is to say they were irrelevant.

Seriously guys, we're APs. The Ball is an AP gimmick. That's fine. Good for Max and the Barona Casino that funds both the Ball and the BJHOF. But, as APs, I can't believe some people actually take this seriously. Kind of like falling for your own act.:)

Sometimes we act like everything that can be known about blackjack has already been discovered. Selecting only 21 may be presumptious (or maybe that was just the first 21). Who knows but that the greatest strides are yet to be made in taming this game. KO was one great innovation IMHO, potentially bringing card counting to the masses. And a system for Spanish 21 was probably considered unlikely until the past couple of years. Who knows what's next?

I'd like to see a simple test that is predictive of a terribly good or bad shoe (one thread suggested that the absence of more than half the middle cards (6,7,8,9) was indicative of a "shoe from hell"). The point is, there seems to be areas that bright minds might still explore more fully and maybe come up with a different slant than the conventional wisdom. Could be that many more hall-of-famers are yet to come.

Could be that many REAL hall-of-famers will NEVER reveal their secrets, will quietly go about their business, will take these secrets to their grave; and will FOREVER remain anonymous to the masses.

There ARE advanced blackjack techniques out there that are so effective, that almost every single member of this "hall of fame" cannot even DREAM that they exist. This is a FACT.
