I may be going out of town for the weekend and if so, wanted to be sure and wish all of you a very safe and happy Holiday season.

For my Republican Friends:
Here's wishing all of You a
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

For my Democrat Friends:

"Please accept with no obligation, implied or implicit, our best
wishes for an environmentally conscious, socially responsible,
low-stress, non-addictive, gender-neutral celebration of the winter
solstice holiday, practiced within the most enjoyable traditions of
the religious persuasion of your choice, or secular practices of
your choice, with respect for the religious/secular persuasion
and/or traditions of others, or their choice not to practice
religious or secular traditions at all. We also wish you a fiscally
successful, personally fulfilling and medically uncomplicated
recognition of the onset of the generally accepted calendar year
2006, but not without due respect for the calendars of choice of
other cultures whose contributions to society have helped make
America great. Not to imply that America is necessarily greater than
any other country nor the only America in the Western Hemisphere.
And without regard to the race, creed, color, age, physical ability,
religious faith or sexual preference of the wishee. By accepting
these greetings you are accepting these terms. This greeting is
subject to clarification or withdrawal. It is freely transferable
with no alteration to the original greeting. It implies no promise
by the wisher to actually implement any of the wishes for herself or
himself or others, and is void where prohibited by law and is
revocable at the sole discretion of the wisher. This wish is
warranted to perform as expected within the usual application of
good tidings for a period of one year or until the issuance of a
subsequent holiday greeting, whichever comes first, and warranty is
limited to replacement of this wish or issuance of a new wish at the
sole discretion of the wisher."

Merry Christmas Mike, and Merry Christmas to Ken and all the members. If you are travelling, please be careful driving, and for God's sake, don't drink and drive!

I'm just doing my last shift (9am-12pm, 3hrs but full days pay!), then I have until the 9th of January off.

For most of you (northern hemishere), you are probably stoking up the fire(or turning up the heating) to keep yourselves warm, but here in Sydney these days its getting up towards 40 degrees Celsius, or 100+ Fahrenheit and its pretty dry.
I'm lucky to live close to beaches which is good, but my main concern is the near certainty of major bushfires/forest fires. In 2001, on Christmas day itself, my family and 1000's more around Sydney and elsewhere were evacuated in what became known as the Black Christmas fires. My cousins lost a house. Seeing 60 foot tall firestorms blowing over the ridges as you leave your home on Christmas day is not a good feeling.
So if you are saying prayers over the holidays and have a few spare moments, ask God (or whoever you pray to) to spare us from another Black Christmas, and to watch over our (volunteer) Aussie firefighters and keep them safe from harm as they protect us.
Sorry for the gloom.

Again, Merry Christmas and happy holidays to all. I wish you all the best for a safe and happy new year.

Cheers,
Mat
