Mid Shoe Entry and Leaving Early

A few nights ago we had a good chat session where a member here stated that they never play an entire shoe. They either came in when it was fresh and left before the cut card, or came in late and left at the cut card.

Now I understand that by doing this you can still start your count as soon as you get in and pretend the one's that have already been used are behind the cut card, but aren't you effectively reducing your penetration? Isn't that one of the biggest factors when choosing a game to play? Or does the increased cover outweigh the benefits of sitting through a whole shoe or two?

Were they not backcounting the shoe?
They made it sound that if they were solo they weren't even backcounting. I could possibly be wrong about that, but I'm pretty sure they'd come in, see if the shoe got hot and then vacate to another shoe.

I don't wong as much as some of these guys. But I think it would be correct to say jumping in on a shoe with no Idea of the deck composition would have the effect of reduced penetration. I have seen a lot of folks do just that, come in and play a few hands and leave for another table. Some were counting some were not. As far as cover... It wouldn't be worth it to me... I would just play from the top and leave when it went south if I wasn't going to back count.

Having said that... I'm assuming they have no other information about the shoe.

Deathclutch, the guy was talking about the fact he doesn't play if there is no advantage, that's why he leaves a shoe or enters a shoe when he does. for him it all depends on if he has an advantage or not.

Since I'm that guy being talked about here let me clear it up. I am backcounting while playing solo when I jump in. I only play with an advantage so it would not help my game to jump into a shoe already started not knowing the count. It can be done, and is done by many. While not being a wrong way to play, that does not meet my guidelines on how I must play. Counting offers so little advantage that I refuse to play with any disadvantage at all. Its not a fun way to play if your a recreational player that likes to sit and enjoy the whole playing atmosphere. Thats not my intent so it suits me just fine to always be on the run.

Thank you for clearing that up for me. I didn't remember who had said it, but I wanted to try and move a lot more. Thank you for clearing that up for me before I started going around reducing my penetration!
