Being there are non-AP blackjack players here it would be possible, even logical for a casino marketing person to introduce himself and make offers with no nefarious intent.

Even in the case of AP's, being a casino host theoretically doesn't know anything about AP he or she might get credit just for getting us to their casino and having us give our action. What the pit and surveillance thinks of us isn't their problem.
Very true, but I would still feel queasy about knowing that someone at the casino where I was going knew that I was an advantage player. Heck, the casino might not care. A common strategy seems to be to watch the counters, and so long as they don't appear to pose a serious threat, to let them play. But then one day in the middle of a bad bit of negative variance, they might decide it's time to give them the "tap." Nothing worse than getting the tap when you're in the hole.

Great post! :)

The hosts of the MIT team loved them since they got a cut of their action, even though they were winning big every visit. I wouldn't be surprised that hosts would be looking here for high rollers, even if they count cards.

And depending on the host's contract, even if the casino were to find out that they knowingly brought in card counters (and that'd be impossible to prove), they would still get paid

There's no clause in a host's contract that says they don't get paid for advantage players, lol.

Unless the host is doing something illegal like providing fake player cards, they have all the motivation in the world to bring in big players.

But still, if you really want a casino host it's probably better to go through the official channels to get one (eg. the phone # on the back of your rating card). Unless it's a host that someone you know also knows and is willing to give you inside info like if there's any notes on your card.

Personally I only use hosts if I need to. A host to me is just trouble down the line when I end up getting backed off.

You won't use them for other reasons, but you think it is perfectly reasonable for everyone else here to make arrangements with persons on the Forum claiming to be casino hosts or hostesses? Call me stupid, but you won't catch me doing so. :)

No, I'm saying if someone does it's most likely a real host and not someone setting a trap for you.

I said in a previous post that it also seems like an unnecessary risk though (on the off chance that it actually is a trap)

In fact, in the post you quoted of mine, I even said that if you want a host you're better off calling the standard # that everybody has access to versus contacting one through this message board.

right. I agree with that. It's always better if you contact them and they have no knowledge that you are a counter.

Then where'd you get the idea that I thought it was perfectly reasonable to use a host that advertised here?

Isn't that what AM said and didn't you agree with him? I'll go back and reread it.

PS== Post #36

If you say I read too much between the lines, I'll take your word for it. But I thought you were saying it was probably all right to deal with hosts who knew you to be a counter.

Ah, I said there's some friendly hosts who might be able to help you AP-related ways.

That's just speculation, never said it was a GOOD idea to go telling your host that you're counting cards or whatever you're doing. (I sure as hell wouldn't unless I know for a FACT they're OK with it and will help me out)
