More/crazier Ploppy Logic 50 Years Ago Or Today?

back in the 50s and 60s when there was even +ev blackjack, do you think that there was crazier ploppy logic than there is today? people are bigger assholes now, but since they didnt really know how to play basic strategy back then, do you think they had some crazy ideas? do you think they argued at the table more/less? im going to say less for both questions, just due to the fact that people are bigger assholes now, and back then they probably minded their own business and were more friendly

Well, the first basic strategy wasn’t published until 1958 so I would imagine that people were pretty terrible players back then. Although in those days most of the men were at the craps table. Blackjack was thought of as “a woman’s game.” I'm sure superstitions were rampant, but I don’t imagine many fights or arguments broke out amongst the ladies.

Couple of questions here

I believe people do fight more at the tables today than in the past, but I also believe that it is just the nature of today's people and today's casinos and has little to do with basic strategy or when it was published.

People knew who the guys were that ran casinos in the old days and were generally on good behavior, also dressing up, not down was how you went to a casino.
Basic Strategy? Get off this board and go to the casino and just count how many people you see that play basic strategy perfectly. I used to say less than 5% play it perfectly but I know as far as California and Nevada goes, that I am way off. The number must be 1% or less. Just watch the soft doubles, what they do with a soft 18 and when they split 9's, and you will be amazed. Just because BS has been available for 50 years, does not mean much. Plus, there were players more than 50 years ago who had pretty good strategies and did some counting effectively since the games were all single deck.

But still, I think the overall level of strategy has improved a bit since the old days. Based only on what I read in that early article describing BS, it sounds like splits were almost never done, and doubling down was rare as a hen's tooth.

I think in KO they claim soft-doubling and hitting stiffs rarely happened, while splitting tens was not uncommon.
