SugarHouse Casino is opening on September 23 at 1:00 PM. They will offer 18 blackjack tables! We know what the rules will be (blackjack rules are part of Pennsylvania state law). Can't wait for this new store, that would make 3 good places a short distance from each other on I-95.

Ironically there's a group called Casino Free Philadelphia whose mission is to bankrupt casinos. They were semi-successful in chasing away Foxwoods Philadelphia, now they're targeting Sugar House. If they really want to bankrupt them, they should all learn how to count cards and hit Sugar House hard on day 1 as a team. Since they don't care if they can play anymore, they can spread a lot and not use any cover.

Too much work for people like that. Their mission is not to bankrupt the casinos, it's to get paid off by the casinos just like every other anti-casino group out there. A classic shakedown.

What is the problem with these morons?
Are they the typical left-wing "we know better than you what to eat, drink, smoke, gamble so do what we say" type or is there something else going on?
I have to piss my pants laughing when they say they'll "bankrupt" the place. They got to be kidding-that joint will be packed like a sardine can.
God help them if they try to physically block Granny from getting to her Wheel-Of-Fortune! machine.

Most of the opposition to the various different philadelphia proposed casinos came from local community groups, beginning with the proposed chinatown location 5 years ago. It wasn't that these group were against the idea of the casino. Just not in their backyard. Sugarhouse had a community group oppose it as well, but they really had little creditbility as that location is all industrial and business. (even some gentleman's clubs) With the exception of one highrise condo complex next door to the casino, which is only a couple years old, there really is very little residential neighborhoods anywhere nearby.

It's the urban shakedown. The leadership gets their useful idiots out there to be activists, and the casinos can make the signs and protesters and unflattering press releases go away by becoming responsible members of the community, which of course includes making a "donation" to this organization. This is how Jesse Jackson made his fortune; he'll call you a racist and these billion dollar corporations found it much easier to send in a tax-exempt $50K than to fight it. Environmentalists do the same thing.

What you say is true enough though by looking at their website they seem to be more ideologically driven against any gambling period.
It will be entertaining to see how they plan to "bankrupt" the only casino in a city of over 1.5 million. That will work as well as the repeated stimulus programs have.

We have a better chance of bankrupting them if all of us play as one huge team than the activist group. One billionaire could bet hundreds of millions on a single outcome, if he wins his bet the casino goes bankrupt.

I wish I could be rich enough to bet a billion dollars on one hand, and own a big percentage of the casino's stock. That would be a win either way for me.

That's why God invented table limits.

That's because it is a total misrepresentation! The area dipicted in the video, 17th and diamond, north Philly, is indeed the heart of the high crime, high drug area of north Philadelphia, known as 'the badlands'. The video is very tame in depicting that area. However, that area is some 3 miles to the west of where the Sugarhouse casino is set to open! That's about the same distance as from the Wynn casino to El cortez!

The area where Sugarhouse is opening is referred to as Northern Liberties. A once industrial area, which for the last 25 years has been home to many of Philadelphia's delaware river nightclubs. Lately the area seems to being transformed into a high end condominium residential area. The 3 tower, Waterfront Square Condominiums, built 4 years ago, is located directly adjacent to Sugarhouse. It is home to a number of Philadelphia Professional sports athletes including Ryan Howard. There are are several other similar high priced complexes, (upper 6 to 7 figure units) under construction in the area with a number more proposed including Penn Treaty Towers and Trump Towers (I believe his son is in charge of this project)

Sounds good. I'll leave the second gun home.:whip: j/k

Funny, in Vegas everyone wants to live in Summerlin, which is where all the robbers go to make a living. I'm not saying one should live in the slum areas, but people sure do spend a lot of money to live far from the centers of activity, in more crowded, prestigious areas (like Summerlin) and pass up less costly, less crowded and in some ways safer areas (north, west, south west, and Henderson). I know Steve Wynn has a place in a gated community several blocks east of the strip for his mother, in an otherwise slum area.

Misrepresentation? I did my homework before I posted. The ghetto is 2+miles from Sugar House Casino as per Yahoo's map. It's surely a "walking distance" or a biking-distance for ghetto-criminals to get to the casino.

Aslan, so keep your 2nd side arm in your ankle like a cop ;). By the way, Wynn Casino is 5+miles from El Cortez Casino as per Yahoo map
