Player's Card or not?

I've read a few books on BJ. Some authors say get card and ask for comps. Some authors say don't get a card and pay for your own meals. What do you guys do?

I usually use a player's card and limit my sessions if I'm winning or drawing attention. All I've seen is the dealer tell the boss how much I bought in for. Does anyone know what they actually do to track somebody's play?

Get the players card if you want free food. I assume that you live near the Calif. casinos, so you probably don't need the free rooms.

If you get player cards, it is good to get them from your friends/their names, that way if you get barred you wont be out of business.

All the tracking does is calculate your average bet and overall action on which to base your comp. zg

Ps - I'm looking to start playing frequently in the Desert and n.SD County casinos and I could use some recon from you.

What do you mean get them from your friend? Get the player card in their name? Do you have to show proper ID to get a players card?

Actually you have two legal options, maybe three -

1. Ask your friend(s) to obtain them and give them to you.
2. Obtain "novelty" ID (not counterfit) and use it.
3. Bigger players can sometimes say to the pitboss "my ID is in my room, car, etc." and get a card.

#s 1&2 work fine. zg

Check this website http://sandiego.about.com/od/indiancasino1/ . I live in Carlsbad, which is on the coast and I am within one hour of all 11 of these casinos. Some are not major league but Harrahs, Barona, Pala and Pechanga can pass for any casino in Reno.

How do you go about doing that?

Do you ever get any of the playing cards in your own name?
