Playing the Pair (4,4) When charts overlap

I came across this situation the other night and my mind immediately went into a counter's "black hole". I had a pair of 4"s with a TC+2 playing DAS DA2 DD game. Suddenly my brain cried out. Which chart should I follow here? Since I had an 8 with a suffienient TC I could DD with a 5 up, but since it was also DAS, the chart dictates that I should split. Is there a mathematically preferred play here or is it a "coin toss"?

Normally you would split since that is BS. But since you were at the index, you would then double. You follow BS unless you reach your index, then you use that play. That's what indexes are for, deviating from basic strategy.

Split

No you split first on this. The reason is that although the advantage of doubling may have surpassed hitting at this TC, the advantage of splitting has been increasing too. This is according to playing out the hand at Perfect Play Blackjack

Splitting is the better play because it gives you the chance to get even more money on the table through re-splits, doubles and possibly both. In general, you want to "load up" the table with chips when the dealer shows a 5.

A couple of other contradictory plays ive came across is a pair of 77's and a pair of 66's when dealer shows a bust card.

As an example, if i split a pair of 77's vs 2 at -15 >[DAS,l2] But hit 14 vs 2 @ -7 or less. Which precedes?

As far as the pair of 44's goes. Ha,ha, it's a tricky thing to use the hard 8 playing indexes when Ndas are allowed. When used to the DAS indices.


When DAS are allowed splitting will precede doubling a pair of 44,s.

I think at about 1/2 deck remaining only then does it become a virtual toss up!
