From Steve Miller:

Put Steve Wynn in his place. Support Nevada Assemblyman Bob Beers.

At the present time in Nevada history, there is only one elected official with the guts to stand up to the tyrannical wishes of Steve Wynn.

Assemblyman Bob Beers (not Senator Bob Beers) has asked his colleagues to uphold the Nevada law that allows casino employees to keep their tips. Wynn thumbs his nose at the law and requires his dealers to share their tips with his executives.

According to the July 15, 2008, Nevada Observer (Archive copy), "Legal complaints about the Wynn tip sharing program were funneled to the Labor Commission, which said there was no violation of current statutes. Appealing that ruling to state court has resulted in the same outcome. The dealers and their union have appealed to friendly legislators who are stonewalled by their leadership and are unable to get legislation in the works.

According to Assemblyman Bob Beers, “The law, as written, is quite clear. Taking is taking. And because the company has benefited both directly and indirectly, the law has been broken, not simply bent.” The dealers and union have a current case pending in federal court at this time. Following their losses within the Labor Commission and the state courts, and a lack of support from the legislature, the dealers attempted to bring an initiative petition to the public in support of their grievance.

Secretary of State Ross Miller said the petition did not meet state election law standards, in particular the “single subject” law. Attorney General Catherine Cortez Masto is representing Miller in the federal action. The union and dealers have filed their briefs with the federal court as has Masto and Miller. Among those representing the dealers in their fight, practically from day one is former district judge Don Chairez, currently running for Supreme Court."

Now, Wynn had directed his wrath at Assemblyman Beers by unleashing his pit bulls George Harris and Chuck Muth to try to destroy Beers' reelection campaign.

In the meantime, Wynn cowers in his fiefdom, not available for comment. - SM

That's unbelievable. If I found out my company had it's hand in the tip jar, I'd be ready to kill someone.

The management getting a share of the dealers tips are the pit crew. Pitcrew is the first step up from dealer into the world of management. Many dealers won't take that step because pit crew makes less money. So while this policy seems to hurt the dealers,it also helps them transtion into management by closing the income gap between the two.

Interesting. I always thought that PC's were well paid, while the dealers were working on slave wages. Is this salary discrepancy unique to Wynn's or is it an industry standard?

Since most counters don't tip, why in the heck would anybody here care about how they distribute the tips at the Wynn?

Wynn dealers prior to the splitting were the highest paid in Nevada.,they still are. Wynns PC were average, now they are above average.
When you go from being a senior dealer to being junior management, you take a pay cut. But in about three years, you are making more an have better potenial.

We get a zillion posts about Ron Paul, how evil Steve Wynn is, other kinds of BS. Personally I come here to see some posts about blackjack. Some posters do stick to their knitting, fortunately.
