question about card values

im new to card counting and have been reading on how to do it. can someone explain this to me, i got it in a basic strategy article." We start with a deck of cards, flipping them over one at a time and keeping the running count. If they come out 8,K,3,3,6,2,7,A we would count 0,-1, 0, +1, +2, +3, +3, +2 At the end of the deck we should come out at "0". can someone explain the count to me using the hi/low method. 2-6=+1, 10-A=-1, and 7-9=nuetral. thanks

what does it mean when it says "At the end of the deck we should come out at "0"? and also how does this work:

8 ,K, 3, 3, 6, 2, 7, A
0,-1, 0, +1, +2, +3, +3, +2

can someone explain to me how this count would work, cause i dont understand it at all. thanks

With your first post it sounds simple enough. With each card having a specific value of 1,0, or -1

When you have counted the last card of the deck, the count in your head should always be 0.

Im new to this too, but Im pretty sure im right.

Tens and picture cards are good for the dealer
Smaller cards,esp 4s and 5s are better for the dealer

Start real simple. Count Aces and 5s.When the deck has more Aces than 5s.it favors the player. Less favor the dealer.
Expand to counting all cards ten or picures as -1.(It hurts the player when they leave,hence the minus.)
2s thru 6s count as +1(these cards help a dealer when he hits stiff hands)
So each ten that leaves the deck hurts,and each low card helps.

You practice by going thru a deck of cars.
Flip them over one at a time,start counting at zero.
Add one for each 2 thru 6,subtract one for each ten valued card.If done correctly ,you end up back at zero.
When you can do this perfectly ten times in a row,start turning over 2 cards at a time.
When you can count a deck perfectly every time in less than thirty seconds,you are almost ready to count at a casino.It sounds tough,and you'll start out taking more than 60 seconds a deck,but after 100s of practice rounds,you'll get it.
Eventually,after learning BS and counting,you will vary your bets and sometimes your play according to the cards remaining in the deck.
Obviously there is more to it,but thats a kindergarden wrapup.
There are hundreds of sources you can tap,and card counting requires quite a bit of work,both studying and practicing.

cool NYB, that explanation helps ALOT. i have another question. lets use for example in a single deck game, when do you know when to start betting bigger and when to lower your bet? can someone explain that part to me? thanks

I need to hire a proof-reader.
Obviously it should read tens and pictures are good for the player,small cards are good for the dealer.

To succeed in card counting take a lot of practice,effort and time. You really NEED to read books on this subject,not take advice from folks on the internet.
My favorite intro to counting is the strangely named'A Womans guide to Blackjack',by Angie Marshall.Had she named it"A Beginners Guide to BJ" instead,I suspect you'd have sold many more copies.
The current flavor of the month book is Fred Renzi's "Blackjack Bluebook 2"
There are numerous websites,some of which have already been pointed out to you.
