question about true count

#1
If counting hi lo I should enter a game when the true count is +2 right? because that gives me a .5% advantage. and then leave if it drops to +1 or if it drops to 0?

Also on a typical 3 night trip, maybe 15-20 hours of play what do you think I could see in terms of the highest true count? I know it could be anything but from experience what have you guys seen?

I use KO, but once the count gets above the key count in the 6-deck game of -4, I've seen it in the past three trips get pretty darn high. The first of the most recent three trips, it climbed to +7 several times over a total of maybe 3 hours of play. In the last two trips at a different casino, I have seen it in both trips get as high as +11 but on these trips, I only played 1.5-hours each trip.

I've seen +7 many times but of course, those +11 counts do not come around nearly as often...just so happened that I "there" when it did.

That depends on the rules of the game. Good rules will give you an advantage at +1 but bad rules might not give you an advantage until +3 or more. In general +2 is usually a good time to jump in, although a small bankroll or small spread will actually gravitate toward +3. When to leave will depend on lots of things, like how many other tables are available and how much risk you are willing to take.

You can wait till the TC drops to -1 but also base your decision on how much of the shoe is left. If you leave when its +1 or 0, especially near the end of the shoe it could easily jump to +5 after the next hand and you'd miss a chance for a max bet.

Conversely, if the count is still negative after two decks have been dealt in a 6D game then it is unlikely that the shoe will ever recover. It would be a waste of time to backcount a shoe like that. Wonging can be more of an art than a science. :D

In this thread, I think we were talking about high counts. I couldn't believe this last trip to KC. Two 6-deck shoes in a row, the count rose to +15 in one shoe and in the next one, it rose to +17 (KO Preferred). I may not have played the second one correctly. I was spreading 1:10 but with the count that high, I spread to two spots with 15 unit bets. I pushed one with a twenty and won the other with a doubled eleven.

For shear satisfaction in seeing what I've been working on for the past 6 months payoff, this last trip was sure a boon!

If your 10u bet is sized correctly the 2 hand bet would be 2x 7-8u. zg

I played strictly with a max of 10u until I hit those two monster counts and I guess I got greedy. The first time I did it, the dealer raised her eyebrows a bit but didn't draw attention to me by hollering at the Pit Boss. In fact, on the first hand that I had the big bet out, she made a production of showing "relief" when she busted. I had to remind myself to act "surprised and relieved" also when she busted out! The second time, I had decided that it was a good time to hang it up and leave to drive home (3-hour drive). I colored up everything with Blacks and bet the remainder which "just happened" to be my loose reds and whites. Quite a stack. When I won that bet, I pushed $10 in whites out to the dealer and colored the rest. Neither the toke nor the act of betting my "loose chips" is anything that is unusual for me to do at the end of a good session at AmeriStar...I just pick my time to do it on a good count. Note that I seldom ever toke during play any more.
