Shot Taking Dealers in CT

Has anyone else noticed the dealers in the CT stores taking shots at the players? Picking up push bets and short-paying seem to be the biggest problems.

I know these things happen accidentally all the time, but recently it's been happening several times per session, and what's more suspicious is they are outnumbering errors in the player's favor by about 4:1. Yes, that could be random or a perceptual problem. But it could also be intentional, and given the sleaziness of Indian stores there is certainly not going to be a penalty against the dealers if they are behaving in this way.

Recommend all CT players be on the lookout for dealer misbehavior.

Oh stop that! You know they aren't real Indians who run most Indian casinos, and it's not being Indian that makes them sleazy, it's the fact that they can hide behind their sovereignty and do whatever they want to the public that does so. When Indians from the Midwest show up at Foxwoods and see pictures of the so-called tribal council, they call them "N". Now that's racist.

If you allowed Irish, Italians, Puerto Ricans or anyone else to declare themselves sovereign and disregard the civil law some of them would fall into the same moral hazard and start screwing the public just because they can get away with it. It's human nature.

I have noticed this too, but as you mention it is difficult to know if there is a trend anecdotally. It seems to me that one of the contributing factors to this problem is the strong tendency of dealers in CT to color up players' chips as they pay winning bets. When I played in Vegas recently, I did not observe this behavior nearly as much as I do in CT: dealers in Vegas were much more likely to pay a winning bet with the same denomination chips in which it was made, and then color up later if necessary or requested by the player.

They should. It slows the game down and induces errors.

Yea...once the dealer starts coloring up on payouts i get worried....I wanna see his math degree before i trust him on any of the payouts (unless its like 5 reds for a green something like that). Its not as bad in blackjack where the payouts are 1:1...I'd say anyone playing the carni games should be much more careful. Those odd payouts, combined with the fact there are multiple bets that need to be matched, are a great combination for fail on the dealer's part.

But who here plays carni games....not me ::coughcough:::joker: anymore

They do it to avoid getting fills, which would probably slow the game down even more.

The problems haven't been with color changes though, the most popular one seems to be picking up winning or push bets. Another thing that makes me suspicious is that it's mostly the younger dealers. The old dealers I would more likely suspect an honest mistake, but a young kid might think it's funny or cool to do something like that.

On the other hand, I could just be projecting my own character onto them, as I'm the sleaziest shot-taker of them all.

True, but the alternative of the dealer requesting to buy back lower denomination chips from players at the table en masse would serve the purpose just as well, and be less prone to error/deviancy - and these types of buyback do also happen, though less often than the payout color up.

One of the first times I caught a dealer was a mispay on a double down in which he colored up from red to green, but took one too many red chips from each stack in doing so, shorting me $10. To me, that type of dealer error/cheating is much easier to overlook than the total failure to pay, so I worry about it more.

Do any of you only bet in predetermined or even amounts so that it will be easier for you to catch these types of mispays?

If I want to avoid slowing the game down, I may bet in only $10 increments...

In my experience, the dealer error rate in CT is at least 10x what it is in NJ. Most of the errors have been in my favor.

I've noticed no increase in the errors you describe in CT. If anything, I've had quite a few dealers pushing my bets that I should have lost. I have seen frequent errors both ways when dealers are coloring up while paying a hand. It pays to be very vigilant when that is happening.

That's good to hear. My 4:1 ratio is not enough to claim it is certainly intentional, but it enough to prompt a guy to ask around for more data.

On a happy note, some of the errors in my favor have been quite large.

Do you think getting annoyed with dealers when they make errors is more likely to make them nervous and make more errors, or more likely to make them more diligent and make fewer? Obviously the former would be better.

I'll be up in CT tommorrow. I'm not there for any real playing for myself, but I will keep my eyes peeled for shifty dealers and even shiftier counters while I'm wandering around. Maybe I'll catch some of these expert New England AP's in action.

Are you talking about FW or MS or both.

I play at MGM only and watch pretty close. I have been paid 3 times when I shouldn't have been. But, I have never seen anyone cheated. I usually sit at tables where I have become familiar with the dealers.
